What does LinkedIn's User Agreement say about automation?
It forbids automating your account. In section 8.2 ("Don'ts"), members agree not to use "bots or other unauthorized automated methods" to access LinkedIn. They also agree not to use software, scripts or browser plug-ins that scrape or copy LinkedIn. LinkedIn's help article on prohibited software adds that automation extensions aren't allowed and that accounts using them can be restricted.
The clause doesn't name job applications. But an Easy Apply bot opens LinkedIn, reads the form and submits it without you, which is automated access. A "supervised" or "human-speed" bot is still a bot.
What this means for you:
- The risk sits with your account. A vendor can't accept LinkedIn's terms for you.
- The employer's site is outside LinkedIn. Applying on a career page that LinkedIn links to doesn't automate LinkedIn.
