Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Plant Regional Services Engineer to provide dedicated onsite technical support and smart-hands assistance for our client's plant and enterprise IT infrastructure. In this role, you will diagnose and resolve complex hardware, server, network, and operational endpoint issues across manufacturing facilities, acting as the primary onsite liaison between local operations, engineering teams, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite support, diagnosis, and issue resolution for plant IT systems, including workstations, enterprise servers, storage appliances, network devices, backup systems, printers, and mobile hardware.
- Perform critical smart-hands tasks: component replacements, physical hardware checks/swaps, cable patching, system reboots, and remote-guided engineering troubleshooting.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server 2019/2022, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows 10/11 platforms according to break-fix and asset lifecycle standards.
- Support localized plant technologies, including IoT devices, industrial sensors, RFID encoders/scanners, AV systems, shop-floor kiosks, and time clocks.
- Execute physical rack-and-stack activities, structured cabling, and hardware moves within comms and server rooms (involving lifting equipment up to 40 lbs).
- Coordinate hardware dispatches, field maintenance, and warranty repairs with OEMs, vendors, and third-party service providers.
- Actively monitor system health, alerts, capacity utilization, and uptime across plant infrastructure.
- Participate in plant maintenance windows, scheduled power outages, downtime cutovers, IT audits, and disaster recovery (DR) drills.
- Maintain local configuration documentation, CMDB asset records, site playbooks, and network topology diagrams.
- Travel to regional or nearby plant locations to provide hands-and-feet field assistance and project rollout support.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of progressive, hands-on enterprise IT support and infrastructure smart-hands experience.
- Proven troubleshooting skills across Windows Server (2019/2022), Linux (Ubuntu), and client OS platforms (Windows 10/11).
- Direct experience executing physical smart-hands tasks: server/switch rack-and-stack, hardware replacement, and structured cabling.
- Working familiarity with network switches, patch panels, enterprise printing, and IT peripherals.
- Hands-on experience coordinating with hardware OEMs (Dell, HPE, Cisco, Lenovo) and logging incident/change tickets in ITSM tools (ServiceNow/Jira).
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs for hardware racking and installations.
- Professional communication skills and willingness to travel to nearby plant sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience providing IT support within a manufacturing plant, distribution center, or industrial environment.
- Exposure to IoT devices, RFID hardware, industrial barcode systems, or operational technology (OT).
