Job Description CNC Turning Setter / Engineer

Position: CNC Turning Setter / Engineer
Department: Production – CNC Machining
Location: J S Auto Cast Foundry India Pvt. Ltd., Kuppepalayam, Coimbatore

Qualification

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) or B.E. Mechanical Engineering

Experience

• 2–6 years of relevant experience in CNC Turning machine setting and process optimisation.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform machine setting, prove-out, and first-off approval for CNC Turning machines.
• Set tooling, fixtures, jaws, and offsets as per production requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and quality specifications.
• Optimise machining parameters to achieve cycle time, productivity, and quality targets.
• Conduct trial runs and troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process-related issues.
• Ensure dimensional accuracy using measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometres, bore gauges, and dial gauges.
• Support production operators during shift start-up and resolve process-related issues.
• Monitor tool life and recommend improvements to reduce tooling costs.
• Ensure machine availability through routine preventive checks and coordination with the maintenance team.
• Maintain 5S, safety standards, and compliance with company quality systems.
• Train and guide machine operators on setting standards and best machining practices.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments to achieve daily production targets.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of CNC Turning machine setting and operation.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, work holding, and machining parameters.
• Hands-on experience with Fanuc/Siemens/Mitsubishi CNC controls (preferred).
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S practices.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in automotive component manufacturing or precision machining industry.
• Exposure to productivity improvement and cycle time reduction projects.
• Ability to handle multiple machine models and support new product development trials.
