Video Editor (Social-First)

Butterworks Studio is looking for a video editor who thinks like a creator first and an editor second.

Here's the honest version of what we need. We're not looking for someone who stitches clips together once they've been told which cuts to use. We want the person who looks at a pile of raw footage and just knows what the reel should be: where the hook is, what to cut, what to keep, and what treatment will make it fun to watch. The brief should be a starting point for you, not a set of instructions.

What you'll do:

• Take raw footage and find the story in it. You decide the best cuts, the pacing and the structure for maximum engagement on Reels and Shorts, without waiting to be told.
• Come up with the video treatment yourself. Given the footage and a brand, you pitch how it should look and feel so that it's genuinely fun to consume.
• Reference constantly. You study what's working on social right now, across brands and creators, and use it to pick the right editing style for each client.
• Make videos entertaining with motion and sound: quick cuts, animated text and graphics, pop sounds, sound effects, music hits, and playing video and audio against each other to keep people watching.
• Own your edits from rough cut to final export, and turn them around fast. Speed matters here, and so does quality.
• Occasionally work on pitch and new-business videos, bringing the same eye for what makes a video land.

Who you are:

• 3 to 5 years of editing experience, ideally at an agency or content studio, with real social-first work to show for it.
• A heavy content consumer. You're always on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, you notice how videos are edited, and you can tell us why one reel worked and another didn't.
• Someone with strong creative instincts and the confidence to make calls on your own. When you're not sure, you bring a point of view, not just a question.
• Comfortable in Premiere Pro and After Effects, with a good ear for sound design and mixing, and curious about AI-assisted editing tools.
• Fast, organised and reliable across multiple accounts at once.

Nice to have:

• Experience editing for multiple brands across different categories and tones.
• A personal page or portfolio that shows your taste, not just client work.
