Role Overview ExaThought is looking for a Software Engineer II to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable backend services and APIs. The ideal candidate has professional experience in Python or Go, understands relational databases and cloud-based deployments, and can take ownership of features while collaborating with engineers and other stakeholders. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain scalable, secure, and maintainable backend services and APIs using Python or Go. • Write clean, testable, well-documented code and follow established engineering standards and code-review practices. • Develop and maintain REST APIs, service integrations, and backend business logic. • Work with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including query development, data modelling, and performance troubleshooting. • Use AWS services to support application deployment, operations, monitoring, and reliability. • Write and maintain unit and integration tests; investigate defects and perform root-cause analysis for production issues. • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerized development and deployment workflows, and release readiness. • Contribute to data pipelines, data transformations, and related troubleshooting using SQL, Python, Shell, or similar technologies. • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, technical discussions, design reviews, and collaborative problem-solving. • Use AI-assisted engineering tools and spec-driven workflows where appropriate to improve productivity while maintaining code quality. • Document technical designs, implementation decisions, operational procedures, and relevant engineering knowledge. Required Skills and Experience • At least 2 years of professional software development experience. • Proficiency in Python or Go for backend development. • Working knowledge of REST APIs, backend application design, debugging, and software engineering fundamentals. • Experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL. • Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, or equivalent cloud services. • Understanding of unit testing, code quality, version control, and collaborative code reviews. • Exposure to Agile/Scrum ways of working. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and teamwork skills. Good to Have • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools. • Exposure to data processing, ETL/data transformations, Spark, Hadoop, or similar technologies. • Experience with asynchronous processing, queues, microservices, or distributed systems. • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and spec-driven development workflows. • Experience supporting production applications and improving application performance or reliability. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
