Senior Video Editor

About the role

We are not looking for someone who simply knows how to edit.

We are looking for a Senior Video Editor (YouTube) who can take a script or idea and figure out how it should be experienced visually: B-roll, a graphic, animation, a visual metaphor, a screen recording, AI-generated footage, a cinematic shot, or simply the creator on screen.

You will work with creators and writers from pre-production to final delivery on Sharique Samsudheen's flagship Malayalam YouTube channel (1.7M subscribers), shaping the story, visual language, pacing and execution of each video.

The goal: don't just edit the footage. Create the video.

What you'll do

• Own the creative and technical execution of long-form flagship Malayalam YouTube videos, including podcasts and interviews.
• Develop visual treatments, storytelling approaches and shoot requirements with creators and writers during pre-production.
• Turn scripts into compelling visuals using editing, B-roll, motion graphics, typography, animation, sound design, archival content and visual metaphors.
• Make strong calls on pacing, transitions, composition, colour, typography, motion and visual hierarchy.
• Build an edit style native to how Kerala's Gen Z audience watches, shares and engages.
• Use AI and new creative tools to prototype and produce visuals, audio and animation.
• Edit for YouTube retention: know when to speed up, slow down, build curiosity or break the pattern.
• Review retention, engagement and audience feedback and apply it to the next video.

Must-haves

• 3+ years of professional editing / visual storytelling with a strong long-form YouTube portfolio
• Professional fluency in Malayalam and a strong feel for Kerala's culture, humour and references
• Strong understanding of Gen Z behaviour and internet culture
• Advanced Premiere Pro; working knowledge of After Effects and/or DaVinci Resolve
• Uses AI tools as part of a modern creative workflow
• Strong visual taste across typography, composition, colour, motion and sound
• Deep understanding of YouTube storytelling, pacing and retention
• Can develop a visual approach from a script on their own

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Malayalam YouTube channels, creators or digital-media brands
• Explainers, cinematic YouTube content, documentaries or podcasts
• Camera, lighting, framing and production knowledge
• Shoot planning and pre-production experience
• Generative AI and emerging creative tools
