Job Description:

Role: QA Engineer (Manual Testing + Mobile Testing)

Location: Chennai

Years of Exp: 6+

Project: Manual Quality Testing and Bug Hunting for Native Apps

Background:

We are currently addressing several quality issues across our native mobile applications. These issues originate from different sources, including platform-specific behaviour, device and operating-system variations, and user scenarios that are difficult to reproduce internally. We are looking for an experienced testing partner to conduct proactive exploratory testing and bug hunting across our native iOS and Android applications. App store feedback and other user-reported issues will be used as additional input, particularly where reported problems are difficult for our internal teams to reproduce.

Objectives:

The main objectives of this engagement are to:

• Identify and document previously unknown defects in our native applications
• Investigate and reproduce user-reported issues that cannot currently be reproduced by our internal teams
• Validate fixes and perform targeted regression testing
• Increase test coverage across relevant devices, operating systems, app versions and user journeys
• Identify recurring quality risks and gaps in our current testing approach
• Share practical testing knowledge and best practices with our engineers
  

Scope of Work:

The vendor will provide manual testers for the following platforms:

• iOS
• Android

The testers will work closely with our product, engineering and QA teams and will perform activities such as:

1. Exploratory testing and bug hunting

• Execute structured and exploratory test sessions across the core app functionality
• Focus on high-risk, high-traffic and recently changed areas of the applications
• Test realistic end-to-end user journeys and edge cases
• Investigate issues related to different devices, screen sizes, operating-system versions, network conditions and app states
• Test interrupted, offline, background and recovery scenarios where relevant

2. Investigation of existing user complaints

• Review the backlog of reported user issues
• Attempt to reproduce issues using different devices, configurations and user flows
• Document the precise conditions under which an issue occurs
• Provide evidence such as screen recordings, screenshots, logs, timestamps, test data and reproduction steps
• Distinguish between reproducible defects, environment-specific issues and issues requiring further technical investigation

3. Defect reporting and collaboration

• Create clear, actionable defect reports in our agreed tracking system
• Include severity, priority recommendation, affected platform, device and OS information, app version, preconditions and reproducibility
• Support engineering teams during analysis and clarification
• Retest fixes and perform focused regression checks
• Escalate critical or blocking issues promptly

4. Test process and knowledge transfer

• Identify gaps in our existing test coverage and test process
• Recommend improvements to manual and exploratory testing practices
• Share findings and practical testing techniques with our engineers and internal QA stakeholders
• Where appropriate, provide hands-on coaching or short knowledge-transfer sessions on topics such as exploratory testing, test design, defect investigation and mobile-specific testing

Expected Deliverables

The engagement should result in:

• High-quality defect reports with sufficient evidence for reproduction
• Findings from the investigation of existing user complaints
• A summary of key quality risks, recurring defect patterns and recommended improvements
• Fix verification and regression-test results
• Knowledge-transfer sessions or practical guidance for our engineering teams
• Regular testing progress updates
• A final engagement report summarising:
• Testing performed
• Defects identified
• User complaints reproduced or investigated
• Areas not covered
• Recommendations for ongoing quality improvements

Collaboration Model:

The testers will work as an extension of our existing product and engineering teams. We expect close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including:

• Product management
• Mobile engineering
• QA and quality engineering
• Customer support or operations, where relevant

The vendor should be able to work in an agile environment, participate in regular planning and review sessions, and adapt testing priorities based on new findings, releases and emerging user complaints.

Required Vendor Profile:

We are looking for a vendor with:

• Demonstrable experience in manual testing of native iOS and Android applications
• Strong exploratory testing and bug-hunting capabilities
• Experience investigating difficult-to-reproduce mobile issues
• Good understanding of mobile-specific testing challenges, including device fragmentation, OS versions, network conditions, permissions, notifications, background behaviour and app lifecycle
• Strong written communication and defect documentation skills
• The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with engineering teams
• Experience coaching or upskilling developers and QA engineers in testing practices
