Role Overview

Lead the technical design and delivery of trusted cloud data products and scalable data pipelines for the Corporate & Institutional Banking business. The role owns complex engineering outcomes across Trade Finance, Finance, Risk, customer experience, reporting and analytics use cases, provides technical direction to the team, and ensures solutions meet reliability, security, governance and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and lifecycle management of reusable data products, ingestion pipelines and transformation frameworks on Google Cloud Platform.
• Define and assure engineering approaches for complex SQL, Python, PySpark and dbt transformations supporting batch and large-scale data processing.
• Architect and optimise orchestration workflows using Cloud Composer / Apache Airflow and processing solutions using BigQuery, Dataproc and Cloud Storage.
• Establish robust data-quality and reconciliation controls covering schema validation, completeness, duplication, business-date alignment, exception handling and auditability.
• Set and uphold engineering standards for Git, peer review, unit and integration testing, automated deployment, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code and Terraform.
• Own the investigation of complex production incidents and drive improvements in resilience, observability, performance, recovery and operational readiness.
• Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Modellers, Architects, BI colleagues, Quality Engineers and control functions to shape and deliver end-to-end outcomes.
• Produce and assure solution designs, data models, lineage, runbooks, support documentation and technical decision records.
• Identify technical debt, delivery risks and control gaps, then define pragmatic remediation plans.

Leadership and Influence

• Provide technical leadership, coaching and constructive review to data engineers, helping raise engineering quality and capability.
• Influence architecture and product roadmaps by balancing strategic direction, delivery outcomes, operational risk and technical sustainability.
• Coordinate technical delivery across dependent teams and suppliers, resolving ambiguity and escalating material risks with clear options.
• Promote reusable patterns, automation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the engineering community.

What You'll Need

• Expert hands-on experience with GCP, including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataproc and Cloud Composer / Apache Airflow.
• Advanced SQL, Python, PySpark and dbt capability, including optimisation, reusable framework design and complex troubleshooting.
• Proven experience designing scalable ETL / ELT platforms, reusable data products and governed data layers for complex enterprise use cases.
• Strong expertise in Git, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code and Terraform, with experience defining standards and assuring implementation.
• Deep understanding of data warehousing, dimensional and analytical modelling, metadata, lineage, data-quality controls and reconciliation patterns.
• Proven ownership of performance tuning, observability, incident investigation, production support and resilience improvements.
• Strong knowledge of secure cloud engineering, identity and access controls, encryption, regulation and control requirements for sensitive data.
• Excellent analytical, technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills, including the ability to explain complex decisions and influence multiple teams.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with Trade Finance, Finance, Risk, customer experience, reporting or analytics data.
• Awareness of metadata management, data lineage and governance tooling such as Collibra or equivalent.
• Experience delivering data products within an Agile, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Relevant cloud, data engineering or platform certification.
