Procurement Manager

Role Summary:

The Procurement Manager will lead procurement operations to support efficient, compliant purchasing and supplier processes. This hybrid role based in Chennai, India will help manage procurement workflows, supplier records, and transactional accuracy across internal systems, including Oracle Supplier processes and US 1099 supplier requirements. The position will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support timely, accurate, and compliant procurement execution. This role will report to the Procurement Director.

Team Summary:

Serving as the local team lead for the Procurement team within the Finance division, this role is integral to the procurement lifecycle at athenahealth. You will support backend procurement operations for a U.S.-based procurement team, including requisition compliance, purchase order creation, supplier registration, maintenance of records within enterprise resource planning/procure-to-pay (ERP/P2P) tools, supplier due diligence, annual supplier monitoring, contract coordination, internal and external communications, reporting, and related operational work.

In this role, you will partner with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to help ensure procurement activities are completed accurately, consistently, and on time. The position requires strong organization, sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a structured environment. You should be comfortable working across teams, reviewing data for accuracy and trends, and identifying practical solutions to operational challenges. Experience supporting a team and helping improve operational results will be valuable in this role.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day procurement operations, including requisition review, purchase order support, supplier setup, and record maintenance.
• Ensure procurement transactions align with internal policies, approval requirements, and compliance expectations.
• Coordinate supplier onboarding and ongoing supplier maintenance activities in Oracle Supplier or similar procurement systems.
• Support US 1099 supplier processing by maintaining accurate records and helping ensure required documentation is complete and current.
• Monitor supplier due diligence, annual reviews, and compliance-related follow-up activities.
• Collaborate with internal business partners, finance teams, and external suppliers to resolve procurement issues and support service continuity.
• Analyze procurement data, track operational metrics, and prepare reports to support process visibility and decision-making.
• Improve procurement workflows by identifying opportunities to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and control.
• Lead or support a small team, providing guidance, prioritization, and follow-through on operational deliverables.
• Use AI tools and AI-assisted workflows to improve procurement reporting, summarize supplier or transaction data, and streamline recurring operational tasks while applying human judgment to review output for accuracy, compliance, and business context.

• Support contract administration activities and route documents to the appropriate stakeholders for review and approval.
• Assist with policy updates, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to support procurement issue resolution and process alignment.
• Help maintain audit-ready records and documentation for procurement activities.
• Contribute to recurring operational reviews and team planning activities.
• Support special projects related to procurement operations or supplier management.
• Provide backup support for related procurement tasks as needed.
• Assist with continuous improvement efforts across procurement systems and workflows.

Expected Education & Experience:

• Bachelors degree in business, supply chain, finance, operations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supplier operations, or a related business operations role.
• Experience managing procurement workflows in an enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle Supplier or a comparable supplier management system.
• Working knowledge of US 1099 supplier processes and documentation requirements.
• Experience supporting procurement compliance, requisition review, purchase orders, and supplier record management.
• Experience partnering with internal stakeholders and external suppliers in a shared-services or operational setting.
• Proven ability to analyze data, identify issues, and recommend practical solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with business partners and suppliers.
• Experience leading or supporting a team, with the ability to organize work, balance priorities, and follow through on commitments.
• Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and procure-to-pay (P2P) tools preferred.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment based in Chennai, India.
