Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Java Developer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Apache Kafka, MySQL, Docker, and Kubernetes.

The candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing backend services, designing scalable REST APIs, and managing integrations with internal and external systems. The role also involves taking ownership of existing microservices, troubleshooting production issues, maintaining Kubernetes deployments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of 2–3 assigned microservices, including application controllers, BSS controllers, notification services, schedulers, and exporters.
• Understand, document, maintain, and improve existing business logic across microservices.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance REST APIs.
• Implement Kafka producers and consumers for push and email notification pipelines.
• Integrate applications with external systems, including BSS, ASM, ATG, FCM/Firebase, email systems, and Vault.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established coding standards.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Develop and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests.
• Maintain Helm charts and Kubernetes deployment configurations.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support L3/L4 escalations for owned services.
• Contribute to technical documentation, test strategies, deployment procedures, and architecture reviews.
• Mentor junior developers and participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies.

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot for microservices development.
• Strong experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, and consumer groups.
• Solid knowledge of MySQL, complex queries, transactions, indexing, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including pods, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and resource management.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, including OpenAPI and Swagger documentation.
• Understanding of JWT, OAuth2, and token-based authentication and authorization.
• Experience integrating Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications.
• Proficiency in Git and feature-branch workflows.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD.
• Hands-on experience with Helm charts.
• Good understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.

Good-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Spring Cloud, Spring Batch, or Spring Scheduler.
• Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault for secrets and certificate management.
• Knowledge of Strimzi Operator and Kafka on Kubernetes.
• Experience with Micrometer, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Familiarity with distributed tracing tools such as Jaeger or Zipkin.
• Knowledge of the Telecom domain, particularly BSS/OSS provisioning workflows and account management.
• Experience with ELK Stack, Loki, or APM tools such as New Relic, Dynatrace, or Datadog.
• Familiarity with Istio or Envoy service mesh technologies.
• Experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, and Testcontainers.
• CKAD certification is an added advantage.

Work Location and Reporting

This position is based in Mohali, India, and requires full-time, on-site presence on all working days. This is not a work-from-home position.
