Job Description

Insight Global is seeking two Senior Full Stack .NET Developers to support the modernization of a client's UHX GUI Suite from Visual Basic 6 into a modern .NET-based solution.

These individuals will be responsible for analyzing existing application behaviour, translating legacy code and workflows into maintainable modern components, and remediating dependencies on outdated Microsoft technologies.

The Senior Full Stack .NET Developers will focus primarily on C#, .NET, application services, APIs, business logic, data integration, and legacy code transformation. They will partner closely with the dedicated React Developers responsible for the modernized user interface.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience modernizing or migrating legacy enterprise applications and will be comfortable reverse-engineering complex or partially undocumented systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze, refactor, and modernize functionality currently implemented in VB6.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and scalable C#/.NET application components and services.
• Translate legacy business and engineering logic while maintaining expected application behaviour.
• Analyze dependencies between user-interface functionality, application logic, engineering calculations, and data.
• Replace or redesign ActiveX, OCX, COM, and other legacy technology dependencies.
• Refactor VB6-specific programming patterns into modern object-oriented implementations.
• Develop APIs and application interfaces required to support the modernized React presentation layer.
• Collaborate with React Developers to integrate front-end functionality with .NET services and business logic.
• Develop reusable .NET services, class libraries, and application components.
• Write unit tests and participate in peer code reviews.
• Debug discrepancies between legacy and modernized application behaviour.
• Support performance optimization and application security improvements.
• Work with the QA Automation Engineer to support regression, integration, and system testing.
• Work with the Heat Transfer SME when interpreting engineering workflows, calculations, and expected outputs.
• Participate in sprint planning, technical reviews, defect resolution, and stakeholder demonstrations.
• Produce clear technical documentation to support long-term maintainability.
• Work autonomously within a distributed delivery team.

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on C# and .NET development experience.
• Strong knowledge of C#, .NET Framework, and modern .NET.
• Experience modernizing or migrating legacy enterprise applications.
• Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals.
• Understanding of SOLID principles and modern software-design patterns.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs and service-layer components.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Experience reverse-engineering or understanding undocumented application logic.
• Understanding of legacy Microsoft technologies such as:
• Visual Basic 6
• COM
• COM Interop
• ActiveX
• OCX controls
• Experience with Git or a comparable source-control platform.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and communicate technical issues clearly.

• Preserve application functionality while moving legacy logic into maintainable .NET components.
• Reduce reliance on VB6, ActiveX, COM, and OCX technologies.
• Deliver clean and reliable interfaces for the React presentation layer.
• Minimize regression defects and calculation discrepancies.
• Deliver production-quality code with limited client oversight.
• Create reusable components that support future modernization work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct VB6-to-.NET, VB6-to-VB.NET, or VB6-to-C# migration experience.
• COM Interop experience.
• Experience with WinForms or WPF.
• Experience replacing legacy third-party controls with modern equivalents.
• Exposure to React, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with automated unit-testing frameworks such as NUnit, MSTest, or xUnit.
• Experience with engineering or calculation-intensive software.
• Experience supporting compressed modernization or technical-debt remediation programs.
• Experience working within distributed or offshore delivery teams.
