Freelance Computer Vision Consultant (3+ Years of Experience)

We're looking for an experienced Computer Vision Consultant, on a freelance basis, to work with our team on AI-based defect detection and visual inspection projects.

What you'll do

• Understand each use case, product and defect type, and define how it can best be solved with computer vision.
• Plan and carry out image data capture using industrial cameras, including camera selection, lens and lighting setup, and positioning on the line.
• Build, label and manage datasets of good and defective parts.
• Train, test and fine-tune defect detection models (classification, object detection and segmentation) based on the captured data.
• Build out end-to-end inspection systems, from image capture to model inference and reject decisions.
• Optimise models for real-time performance on edge devices at production line speeds.
• Work closely with our internal team on integration, testing and go-live.
• Document approaches, results and recommendations for each project.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision, with real-world defect detection or industrial inspection projects.
• Strong understanding of how to detect and classify defects such as cracks, scratches, dents, porosity, missing components, label and print errors, and dimensional deviations.
• Proven experience training and deploying deep learning models (e.g. YOLO, CNNs, segmentation models) using PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar.
• Practical experience with industrial cameras (GigE / USB3 machine vision cameras), lenses and lighting for image capture.
• Experience with OpenCV and image processing techniques.
• Ability to break down a new use case, assess its feasibility, and propose the right approach.
• Clear communication, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Good to have

• Experience deploying models on edge devices (NVIDIA Jetson, industrial PCs), including TensorRT or ONNX optimisation.
• Exposure to PLC integration or reject mechanisms on production lines.
• Experience with dimensional measurement or gauging using vision.
• Prior work in manufacturing sectors such as automotive, FMCG, pharma, packaging or electronics.

Engagement details

• Type: Freelance / contract. Individual freelancers only.
• Availability (mandatory): Must be available during business hours, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM IST.
• Billing: Hourly, with hours tracked regularly.
• Location: Remote, with occasional site visits when required.
• Start: Immediate.
