Fashion Merchandiser

Company Description

Rock Island Jeans is an apparel company based in Kanpur.

We are hiring a Fashion Designer & Merchandiser who can also manage merchandising. You will design the collection and take it through to an approved sample and bulk production. The role is split between design work at the desk and hands-on work on the factory floor.

Role Description

1. Design

• Collection planning: Turn briefs and references into a clear collection plan, covering the product mix, silhouettes, colours, fabrics and trims for each season.
• Tech packs: Create accurate flats and tech packs that a factory can follow without back-and-forth, including measurements, construction details and a complete bill of materials.
• Fittings and sampling: Lead fit sessions, give clear feedback to the sampling team, and revise samples until they are ready for approval.

2. Merchandising

• Sourcing and costing: Find and negotiate with fabric and trim vendors, and cost each style to a target price before sampling begins.
• Timelines and approvals: Plan and track the schedule for every style, from fabric booking to final approval, including lab dips, trims and pre-production samples.
• Production handover: Hand styles over to bulk production with quality checks in place, and keep all stakeholders updated on progress.

Who we're looking for

• Experience in apparel design, with at least two collections taken through to production.
• A portfolio that includes flats and tech packs, with a clear understanding of how each garment is constructed.
• Strong knowledge of fabrics, fits and finishes, and how they affect cost and quality.
• Hands-on experience in sourcing, costing and vendor negotiation.
• Confidence working with pattern masters, sampling teams and vendors to resolve issues on the floor.
• The ability to manage multiple styles and timelines without losing attention to detail
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Excel; CLO 3D is an advantage
• Based in Kanpur or willing to relocate, and comfortable communicating in English and Hindi
