Job Title: Utility & Specialty Gas Engineer / Executive
Department: Utilities / Facilities Management
Employment Type: Full-Time\
Job Summary
The Utility & Specialty Gas Engineer is responsible for overseeing the safe, continuous, and high-purity delivery of bulk and specialty gases essential to advanced manufacturing operations (such as solar cell, semiconductor, or chemical production). This role ensures the flawless operation, maintenance, and monitoring of gas delivery systems, including bulk tanks, specialty gas cabinets, valve manifold boxes (VMBs), and abatement systems, while strictly adhering to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Process Control
- Operate and monitor high-purity gas delivery systems, ensuring continuous supply, correct pressure, and exact purity specifications required for production lines.
- Execute safe and efficient cylinder, tonner, and bulk gas change-outs for inert, flammable, toxic, and corrosive specialty gases (e.g., Silane, Ammonia, Argon, Nitrogen, Hydrogen).
- Monitor SCADA, PLC, and Facility Management Systems (FMS) to track gas consumption, system performance, and alarms.
- Conduct daily rounds and inspections of gas yards, gas rooms, and distribution piping to ensure system integrity.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on gas cabinets, purifiers, regulators, valves, and filtration systems.
- Troubleshoot system alarms, pressure drops, and flow anomalies to minimize production downtime.
- Perform critical leak detection procedures (e.g., inboard/outboard Helium leak testing) on high-purity stainless steel tubing and fittings.
- Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams for cross-functional repairs and system upgrades.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with hazardous materials handling protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and local safety regulations.
- Manage and test toxic gas monitoring systems (TGMS) and life safety systems regularly.
- Maintain accurate logs, quality control charts, and documentation for gas purity certifications, system audits, and ISO compliance.
- Lead emergency response procedures related to gas leaks, spills, or system failures.
Inventory & Vendor Management
- Forecast gas consumption trends based on production schedules to prevent supply shortages.
- Manage inventory levels of specialty gas cylinders and coordinate timely deliveries with external vendors and gas suppliers.
- Review vendor performance and assist in the procurement of utility spare parts and consumables.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent Diploma with extensive field experience).
- Experience: 3 to 7+ years of experience managing utility operations, specifically high-purity and specialty gas systems in a high-tech manufacturing environment (solar, semiconductor, pharmaceuticals, or petrochemicals).
- Technical Skills:
- Strong ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and engineering schematics.
- Hands-on experience with orbital welding, ultra-high purity (UHP) gas delivery systems, and SCADA monitoring.
- Proficiency in identifying and mitigating the hazards associated with toxic, flammable, and pyrophoric gases.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and excellent cross-departmental communication skills.
