About this role
Job Summary
Technavious is hiring an Electrical Design Manager to lead the electrical design team on large Tier III and Tier IV data center campuses for colocation and hyperscale clients, based in Chennai. The person in this role will own electrical design from concept and tender through construction, commissioning and handover, so that every design is reliable, cost effective and easy to build and maintain. The work is office based with regular site exposure and client facing design reviews, and suits someone who combines deep power systems expertise with the ability to lead and develop engineers
Responsibilities
- Lead pre-bid technical discussions and prepare the Basis of Design, power redundancy philosophy, BOQs and tender drawings for multiple bids in parallel.
- Define the electrical topology for each project, covering HV and EHV intake, MV distribution, DG plant configuration, UPS topology (2N, N+N, distributed or block redundant) and LV distribution.
- Oversee load estimation, single line diagrams and equipment sizing for GIS, switchgear, transformers, DG sets, UPS, batteries, busways and PDUs.
- Lead short-circuit, load flow, protection coordination, arc-flash and harmonic studies in ETAP, and review earthing, lightning protection and lighting design.
- Optimise capex, space and energy performance without compromising tier compliance, driving PUE improvements and supporting IGBC or LEED certification.
- Review calculations and drawings across projects and sign off GFC issues to site, coordinating with mechanical, ELV, structural, architectural and IT teams and leading design reviews with the PMC and client.
- Run technical and commercial vendor evaluations, approve submittals and witness FATs against codes, client standards and Uptime Tier requirements.

Qualifications and Experience
- B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical or Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Between 12 and 18 years of experience in electrical design, including at least 6 years in data centers or comparable mission critical facilities.
- At least one completed Tier III or Tier IV data center of 20 MW or more IT load, delivered from design through execution.
- Deep knowledge of HV and EHV systems (GIS, 11, 22 and 33 kV), large DG plants including MV gensets, and UPS topologies.
- Sound understanding of concurrent maintainability, fault tolerance and redundancy analysis, with tendering experience including DBR, BOQ preparation and vendor technical evaluation.
- Familiarity with IS codes, CEA Regulations, NBC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, TIA-942 and the Uptime Institute Tier Standard.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP and DIALux, and proven experience leading and developing a design team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Delivery of 25 MW or larger IT load campuses with 220 or 230 kV GIS incoming supply, or exposure to international projects (for example the Middle East) and hyperscale client standards.
- Revit exposure, and M.Tech or M.E. in Power Systems or Energy Engineering.
- Credentials such as Uptime Institute ATD, CDCS, CDCP or CDCE, IGBC AP or LEED AP, and IEEE or IEI membership.
