Director of Software Engineering

As the Director of Software Engineering, India, you will serve as the practice leader alongside the US Software Engineering Lead. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading the design, development, and modernisation of applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Working in close collaboration with client teams, project stakeholders, and US practice leadership, you will ensure seamless cross-border delivery and drive technical innovation, quality, and operational excellence across India-based engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

• Delivery Execution: Oversee software delivery execution, quality assurance, and project milestones across all India-based software engineering teams.
• Workforce and Utilisation: Manage headcount, capacity planning, bench utilization, and team allocation for the India practice.
• Capability Development: Drive technical capability strategy, skills growth, and Google Cloud certifications for the India engineering organisation.
• Operational Excellence: Establish quality standards, coding protocols, and continuous improvement in software delivery processes.
• Local Talent and People Leadership: Lead local hiring, performance management, merit reviews, and employee retention/culture in India.
• Global Delivery Quality and Consistency: Jointly ensure unified delivery standards and high execution quality across global engagements.

Requirements:

• Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering, with a strong focus on enterprise-scale application development in cloud computing environments.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing software development teams, with demonstrated success in global delivery models and cross-border / matrix management under collaborative execution structures.
• Extensive experience in software architecture design, including cloud-native application development principles and best practices.
• Solid understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including App Engine, Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, and Kubernetes.
• Proficient in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js, and experience with frameworks like Spring Boot or Django.
• Strong knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing and leading development teams, including remote and distributed teams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented mindset.
• Google Cloud certifications (such as Google Cloud Certified - Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer) are a plus.
