Design Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Awareness of ASME codes, standards, specifications, and applicable engineering practices.
• Good knowledge of the design of pressure vessels, reactors, and heat exchangers.
• Good knowledge of the design of equipment supporting structures, platforms, and steel structures.
• Knowledge of mechanical design of rotary equipment components and parts.
• Proficiency in 3D modelling software, preferably Solid Edge.
• Working knowledge of pressure vessel design software such as PV Elite.
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural analysis tools.
• Working knowledge of STAAD.Pro for structural analysis and design.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and engineering calculation skills.
• Decent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with design, production, quality, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design static equipment such as pressure vessels, reactors, and heat exchangers in accordance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and project requirements.
2. Perform mechanical design calculations, evaluate design requirements, and prepare technical documentation to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of equipment.
3. Optimise equipment and component designs to improve cost-effectiveness, material utilisation, manufacturability, and standardisation.
4. Perform FEA or first-principles engineering calculations wherever conventional code formulae are not applicable or detailed stress analysis is required.
5. Perform structural analysis and design of equipment supporting structures using STAAD.Pro, considering applicable loading conditions and design standards.
6. Develop 3D models, assembly models, general arrangement drawings, and detailed manufacturing drawings using appropriate CAD software.
7. Apply engineering knowledge to the design of rotary equipment components, considering strength, functionality, manufacturing feasibility, and operational requirements.
8. Establish and maintain internal design standards, calculation templates, and standard component designs to improve engineering efficiency and consistency.
9. Coordinate with production and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, fabrication-friendly, and easy to assemble.
10. Resolve design-related technical queries arising during manufacturing and incorporate necessary engineering modifications.
11. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of design activities and project deliverables.
12. Review engineering drawings, calculations, and design documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
