Credit Underwriter

Role Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Underwriter to join our team. The role will be responsible for evaluating credit applications, analyzing financial and non-financial data, assessing risk profiles, and making informed credit decisions in line with company policies. The Credit Underwriter will play a critical role in maintaining portfolio quality while enabling business growth by ensuring fast, fair, and compliant underwriting practices tailored to the digital lending ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and underwrite loan applications by analyzing customer profiles, credit history, income documents, and alternative data sources.
• Evaluate risk parameters using internal scoring models, credit bureau reports, bank statements, and digital footprints.
• Ensure adherence to internal credit policy, regulatory guidelines, and risk management frameworks.
• Collaborate with sales, operations, and risk teams to ensure smooth processing of applications without compromising credit quality.
• Recommend loan approvals, declines, or modifications with clear justifications.
• Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate suspicious cases as per protocol.
• Continuously monitor portfolio performance and provide feedback for credit policy improvements.
• Support digital process enhancements by sharing inputs on underwriting automation, scoring models, and rule engines.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of underwriting decisions in the loan management system.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Graduate/Postgraduate in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or related field (MBA/CA preferred).
• 2-5 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably in fintech, NBFC, or banking.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, cash flows, and credit bureau data.
• Knowledge of digital lending models, alternative credit scoring, and risk frameworks.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with credit decisioning systems/loan management platforms.
• Detail-oriented, with strong decision-making and risk evaluation skills.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
