Role Description The Cosmetic Chemist will design, formulate, and optimize cosmetic and personal care products aligned with luxury brand standards and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and testing formulations, evaluating ingredient compatibility, conducting stability and performance studies, and documenting results for internal and external stakeholders. The role involves close collaboration with branding, product, and marketing teams to ensure that product performance, texture, fragrance, and safety support premium positioning and consumer expectations. The Cosmetic Chemist will also research emerging ingredients and technologies, maintain up-to-date knowledge of cosmetic regulations, and support scale-up and manufacturing guidance when needed. This is a contract, remote role that requires independent work, clear communication, and reliable delivery of project milestones.
Qualifications

• Strong foundation in cosmetic science, chemistry, or a related field, with experience in formulation development for skincare, haircare, or color cosmetics.
• Applied knowledge of raw materials, active ingredients, and their functional roles, including emulsifiers, surfactants, preservatives, fragrances, and conditioning agents.
• Experience conducting laboratory tests and evaluations, such as stability testing, compatibility testing, viscosity and pH measurements, and sensory assessments.
• Understanding of cosmetic regulatory frameworks and safety standards (e.g., ingredient compliance, labeling requirements, claims substantiation) across relevant markets.
• Ability to create clear technical documentation, formulation sheets, testing reports, and guidelines for production and quality control teams.
• Skill in researching new ingredients, trends, and technologies, and translating findings into innovative, commercially viable product concepts.
• Proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams, communicating complex technical information in accessible language, and aligning formulations with brand strategy.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or a closely related discipline; prior experience in luxury or premium brands is an advantage.
• Comfort working in a remote, contract setting, with strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
