Cloud Architect

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Architect to lead the architecture and technical design of our cloud platform. Our platform is being built as a large-scale content delivery and service platform with multiple applications and services interacting across cloud infrastructure, external content sources, delivery networks and end-user applications. What is important is strong experience in architecting and building scalable, highly available cloud-native applications and platforms. The person should be comfortable taking business and system requirements, translating them into an architecture, making appropriate technology choices, and working with engineering teams to take the architecture into production.

Responsibilities:

• Define the overall cloud architecture for the platform.
• Design scalable, highly available and fault-tolerant services capable of supporting large numbers of users, devices and transactions.
• Architect cloud-native applications using microservices, APIs, containers and event-driven architectures.
• Define how different platform components, applications, external systems and third-party services interact.
• Design APIs and integration patterns for content providers, applications, operational systems and other external platforms.
• Architect data storage, caching, messaging and processing layers based on performance and scalability requirements.
• Design for horizontal scaling, load balancing, failover, disaster recovery and multi-region deployment where required.
• Define appropriate approaches for observability, logging, monitoring and operational diagnostics.
• Incorporate security, authentication, authorisation and data protection into the platform architecture.
• Evaluate cloud services and technology choices based on scalability, reliability, performance, operational complexity and cost.
• Work closely with application, backend, DevOps, security and product teams.
• Review architecture and implementation to ensure that the system continues to meet scalability and reliability objectives as the platform evolves

Requirements:

• Strong hands-on experience architecting and building large-scale cloud-based applications or platforms.
• Good understanding of at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong understanding of: Distributed systems, Microservices architecture, REST/gRPC APIs, Containers and Kubernetes, Event-driven and asynchronous architectures, Messaging and streaming platforms, Relational and NoSQL databases, Caching technologies, Load balancing and auto-scaling, High availability and disaster recovery, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, Cloud security and identity management, Monitoring, logging and observability.
• Experience designing systems for high transaction volumes, large user populations and unpredictable demand.
• Ability to identify architectural bottlenecks and make appropriate performance, scalability and cost trade-offs.
• Experience taking systems from architecture/design through deployment and production operations.
