The Position

Role Overview

The Clinical Specialist, Coding Dev plays a critical role in the execution, development, validation, standardization, and optimization of clinical coding and encoded healthcare data assets across global and APAC markets.

The position serves as a bridge between Clinical Informatics, Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Market teams to ensure that coding assets, healthcare datasets, terminology frameworks, and AI-enabled products are clinically accurate, scalable, and aligned with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

Coding Portfolio Execution & Development

• Lead end-to-end clinical coding, annotation, and validation activities
• Drive expansion of coding coverage across multiple clinical domains
• Develop and maintain coding assets supporting healthcare products
• Support ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II, SNOMED CT, LOINC, ATC and future coding frameworks
• Support terminology harmonization across markets
• Design and maintain clinical coding frameworks
• Contribute to coding automation initiatives
• Develop and validate coding decision rules
• Participate in encoded data lifecycle management
• Support large-scale healthcare data transformation initiatives
• Assist with clinical terminology standardization programs
• Support creation of reusable clinical coding assets

Clinical Ontology Development Support

• Support the development and governance of clinical and billing ontologies for coding, claims, analytics, automation, and product solutions
• Design and maintain ontology domains, hierarchies, properties, relationships, modifiers, and metadata to ensure clinical validity, scalability, and reuse
• Apply ontology standards, modelling principles, naming conventions, and governance requirements to maintain consistency and quality
• Map ontology concepts to clinical terminologies, classifications, code sets, and billing constructs while ensuring traceability and provenance
• Perform clinical annotation, content review, testing, and quality assurance, resolving modelling issues with subject matter experts
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and clinical requirements into ontology models and data structures
• Support version control, change management, impact assessments, release documentation, and stakeholder communication
• Develop reusable ontology assets, mappings, and decision logic to improve interoperability, data quality, and automation
• Monitor ontology quality, coverage, accuracy, and usability, and recommend continuous improvements
• Escalate complex ontology, governance, or implementation challenges and support resolution efforts

Stakeholder Coordination

• Partner with Product, Data Science, Analytics, Operations and Clinical Informatics teams
• Coordinate requirements gathering workshops
• Engage with healthcare providers, clients and market stakeholders
• Present coding recommendations and findings
• Manage stakeholder expectations
• Support governance and steering discussions
• Maintain strong communication across regional and global teams

Product & AI Enablement Support

• Support GenAI model development and evaluation
• Create and refine clinical prompts
• Validate AI-generated outputs
• Support healthcare AI training datasets
• Contribute to feature design and validation
• Improve coding logic used within healthcare products
• Collaborate with Product and Data Science teams on AI-enabled healthcare solutions
• Identify opportunities for automation using coding and terminology assets
• Support clinical rule engines and healthcare decision support initiatives

Coding Research & Innovation

• Perform detailed research across international coding systems
• Evaluate US, Australian, Canadian, Singaporean and emerging APAC healthcare coding frameworks
• Research regulatory changes and market-specific coding methodologies
• Benchmark coding standards and best practices globally
• Evaluate innovative healthcare data solutions
• Develop recommendations to improve coding quality and operational efficiency
• Support future adoption of emerging standards such as ICD-11

Annotation, Validation & Quality Assurance

• Execute market onboarding assessments
• Conduct healthcare dataset profiling
• Perform data quality and readiness assessments
• Conduct gap analysis exercises
• Support clinical and billing schema design
• Validate healthcare data models
• Review metadata frameworks
• Review property structures and healthcare attributes
• Ensure regulatory alignment
• Support interoperability and standardization initiatives
• Develop recommendations for data harmonization

Team Support, Operations & Capability Building

• Develop SOPs, coding guidelines and validation frameworks
• Support sprint planning and backlog prioritization
• Contribute to operational planning
• Develop training materials
• Mentor junior coders
• Supervising and coaching 2–3 coders
• Conduct quality review sessions
• Facilitate regional knowledge-sharing activities
• Support onboarding and capability development
• Promote adoption of automation and AI-enabled coding practices

Cross-Portfolio SME Support

• Act as Subject Matter Expert across clinical portfolios
• Provide consultation on:
