Chief Wastewater Pumping Plant Operator - Grade II - HELPS PROGRAM

Under general supervision, incumbents perform supervisory and technical functions involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a staffed wastewater pumping plant, a number of unstaffed plants or a combination of both. Some plants have facilities for screening and grit removal. General direction is received from the appointing authority but wide leeway is allowed for planning work methods and dealing with emergency conditions. An incumbent may be responsible for maintaining pump stations, leachate and methane collection systems at the Croton Landfill. Supervision is exercised over maintenance and labor employees. Does related work as required.

• THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL SERVICE HAS DEVELOPED A HIRING PROGRAM THAT STREAMLINES THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS TO ALLOW AGENCIES TO HIRE DIVERSE, QUALIFIED PERMANENT EMPLOYEES QUICKLY AND WITHOUT EXAMINATIONS. EMPLOYEES HIRED UNDER THE HELP PROGRAM WILL BE APPOINTED ON A PERMANENT BASIS. THE HIRING FOR EMERGENCY LIMITED PLACEMENT (HELP) PROGRAM TEMPORARILY REMOVES THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM REQUIREMENT FOR THIS TITLE.
