Broadcast Technology & Operations Manager

We are looking for an experienced Broadcast Technology & Operations Manager with 5+

years of experience in broadcast operations, playout, live transmission, and technical

coordination.

The candidate should have hands-on experience in managing Live Sports/Events and GEC

(General Entertainment Channel) playout operations, including broadcast automation,

master control room (MCR) operations, channel monitoring, content management, live feed

handling, troubleshooting, and coordination with technical and operations teams.

The role requires a strong understanding of the complete broadcast chain and the ability to

manage incidents in a 24x7 broadcast environment while ensuring channel availability,

quality, and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Live & GEC Playout Operations

• Manage day-to-day Live and GEC channel playout operations.

• Oversee live event workflows including:

o Live feed acquisition

o Feed switching

o Primary/backup feed management

o Live event insertion

o SCTE/event trigger management

o Slates and channel branding

o Commercial/ad-break management

o Return to scheduled programming

• Manage GEC playout workflows including:

o Daily playlists

o Content ingestion

o Scheduling

o Primary and backup playlists

o Channel branding

o Logo and graphics insertion

o Ad and break management

o Emergency/manual intervention

• Ensure uninterrupted channel transmission and timely resolution of operational issues.

2. Broadcast Technology Management

• Manage and monitor broadcast systems including:

o Playout automation systems

o MCR systems

o Video servers

o Encoders/decoders

o Transcoders

o Satellite/IP contribution feeds

o Monitoring and QC systems

o Storage and content management systems

• Understand and troubleshoot IP, OTT and hybrid broadcast workflows.

• Work with technologies such as SRT, RTMP, RTP, UDP, HLS, MPEG-TS, SCTE-

35/104 and other broadcast protocols.

• SRT Gateway Management: Configure, manage, and troubleshoot SRT

Gateway input and output feeds, including SRT caller/listener/rendezvous

modes, stream routing, IP/port configuration, latency, encryption/passphrase,

bitrate, and primary/backup feed switching. Ensure reliable contribution and

distribution of live feeds across broadcast and OTT workflows.

3. Live Event Operations

• Manage technical and operational requirements for live sports and entertainment

events.

• Coordinate pre-event technical checks, and signal testing.

• Ensure availability of:

o Primary and backup feeds

o Encoding/transcoding resources

o Contribution links

o Playout resources

o Monitoring

o Storage and recording

• Monitor live events and coordinate rapid resolution of issues.

• Maintain incident timelines and post-event reports.

4. GEC Channel Operations

• Manage daily GEC channel operations and playlist execution.

• Ensure correct content, metadata, duration and scheduling.

• Monitor playlist integrity and identify:

o Missing content

o Corrupt files

o Incorrect duration/timecodes

o Playlist discrepancies

o Audio/video issues

o Logo/branding issues

o SCTE/ad-break issues

• Coordinate with Content, Programming, Traffic, QC and Technology teams for issue

resolution.

• Ensure changes received from the content/programming team are correctly

implemented and acknowledged.

5. Monitoring & Incident Management

• Monitor channels, feeds and systems on a continuous basis.

• Establish and maintain incident management and escalation procedures.

• Ensure all incidents are properly documented with:

o Incident start time

o Detection time

o Action taken

o Feed/channel impact

o Root cause

o Recovery time

o Total outage/downtime

• Maintain incident logs and daily operational reports.

• Ensure screenshots/logs/evidence are captured for critical incidents.

• Conduct RCA for recurring technical and operational issues.

6. Team Management

• Lead and manage Broadcast Operations/Playout teams.

• Plan shift schedules and ensure adequate 24x7 coverage.

• Train operators and supervisors on:

o Playout systems

o Live event workflows

o Channel monitoring

o Troubleshooting

o Incident management

o Emergency procedures

• Define SOPs, checklists and escalation matrices.

• Conduct performance reviews and identify training requirements.

• Ensure operational teams follow documented processes consistently.

7. Technical Troubleshooting

• Act as the first-level technical escalation point for complex broadcast issues.

• Troubleshoot issues related to:

o Video/audio

o Playout servers

o Automation

o Encoders/decoders

o Transcoding

o IP connectivity

o Satellite feeds

o Storage

o Network

o Streaming

o SCTE/ad insertion

• Coordinate with NOC, Network, Cloud, Engineering and vendor teams for advanced

troubleshooting.

8. Cloud & IP Broadcast Workflows

• Good understanding of cloud-based broadcast workflows.

• Experience working with platforms such as:

o AWS

o Google Cloud

o Azure

o Cloud-based playout/transcoding platforms

• Understand cloud storage, compute, networking and media processing workflows.

• Experience with hybrid on-premise + cloud broadcast environments will be an

advantage.

9. Documentation & Process Improvement

• Develop and maintain:

o SOPs

o Technical documentation

o Operational checklists

o Escalation matrices

o Incident reports

o RCA reports

o Shift handover documents

• Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend automation/process improvements.

• • Work with technology teams to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention.
