Job Description : Application Engineer (Technical Sales & Design)

Job Purpose

To provide technical support to the sales function by understanding customer requirements, recommending suitable fire pump solutions, preparing technical proposals and developing application-specific designs. The role will bridge Sales, Design, Production and customers to ensure technically accurate solutions, timely order processing and successful product execution.

Role & responsibilities

1. Technical Sales & Customer Application

• Understand customer requirements, specifications and operating conditions to recommend suitable fire pump solutions.
• Provide technical consultation for Vehicle Mounted, Portable, Trailer-Mounted, Skid PTO and other specialized fire pump applications.
• Prepare technical offers, product configurations, compliance statements, datasheets and technical presentations.
• Coordinate with the Sales team to clarify technical queries, support customer meetings and provide pre-sales assistance.
• Review tender documents, customer specifications and applicable technical standards to identify compliance requirements and deviations.
• Support the sales team in product selection, costing inputs, technical negotiations and order finalization.

2. Product Design & Engineering

• Develop application-specific layouts, general arrangement drawings, system configurations and technical drawings as per customer requirements.
• Coordinate with the Design and R&D teams for product customization, engineering changes and feasibility assessments.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including BOM inputs, drawings, specifications and design records.
• Validate the compatibility of pumps, engines, PTOs, accessories, piping, fittings and other system components.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements, approved specifications and applicable engineering standards.
• Support prototype development, product testing, design validation and resolution of technical issues.

3. Order Processing & Execution

• Review customer purchase orders against approved quotations, technical offers and agreed specifications.
• Verify product configuration, pump capacity, accessories, scope of supply, commercial terms and delivery requirements before order acceptance.
• Prepare and maintain order processing documents, including order review checklists, technical specifications and customer-approved drawings.
• Coordinate with Sales, Design, PPC, Purchase and Production to ensure timely and accurate order entry in SAP.
• Ensure all technical inputs, BOM requirements and customer-specific specifications are finalized before releasing orders for execution.
• Follow up on pending customer approvals, technical clarifications and drawing approvals to avoid order execution delays.
• Track order status from order receipt to technical clearance and production handover.
• Communicate order-related changes and revisions to all concerned departments and ensure proper documentation.
• Coordinate with PPC and Sales for delivery commitments, order priorities and dispatch-related technical requirements.

Preferred candidate profile

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
• Additional training in fire pump systems, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, CAD or application engineering will be an advantage.

Preferred experience: 2-5 years in technical sales, application engineering, mechanical design or product engineering.

• Experience in fire pumps, industrial pumps, firefighting equipment, automotive systems, PTO-driven equipment or engineered-to-order manufacturing will be preferred.
• Fresh engineering graduates with strong technical aptitude and relevant design skills may also be considered for junior-level positions.

Technical Skills Required:

• Knowledge of pumps, hydraulic systems, engines, PTOs and mechanical components.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or relevant 3D CAD software.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical datasheets, BOMs and customer specifications.
• Understanding of technical tendering, product configuration and engineering calculations.
