Wine Sommelier

Role & responsibilities:

1. Guest Service & Experience
•    Greet guests and assist them in selecting wines based on their preferences, food choices, and occasion.
•    Provide detailed information about wine regions, grape varieties, vintages, and flavour profiles.
•    Conduct wine tastings and pairing sessions for guests.
•    Ensure high-quality wine service following standard procedures.

2. Wine Program Management
•    Develop and maintain an updated wine list that aligns with restaurant concept and pricing guidelines.
•    Select, purchase, and order wines in coordination with the F&B Manager and suppliers.
•    Regularly review wine offerings to ensure variety, balance, and cost effectiveness.
•    Monitor proper wine storage conditions (temperature, humidity, rotation).

3. Inventory & Cost Control
•    Conduct monthly/periodic wine inventory.
•    Track stock levels, consumption patterns, and recommend replenishment orders.
•    Work with the Finance/Cost Control team to manage budgeting and maintain beverage cost targets.
•    Minimize wastage and ensure standard pouring practices.

4. Staff Training & Development
•    Train service staff on wine knowledge, pairing techniques, and correct serving standards.
•    Conduct regular briefings on new wines and seasonal promotions.
•    Create a wine-learning culture within the team.

5. Marketing & Promotions
•    Assist in designing wine promotions, pairing dinners, and special events.
•    Engage with guests to generate interest in premium wines and new arrivals.
•    Support social media or marketing initiatives related to wine programs.

Preferred candidate profile:

•   Certified Sommelier or equivalent professional wine certification
•    Minimum 24 years of experience in a similar role.
•    Strong knowledge of international wines, regions, and vintages.
•    Excellent communication and guest engagement skills.
•    Strong sales and upselling abilities.
•    Ability to train and motivate team members.
•    Good understanding of inventory control and costing.
