Role & responsibilities

• Perform welding operations using TIG, MIG, ARC, or other specified welding processes.
• Weld metal components, pipes, plates, frames, and structural assemblies according to project requirements.
• Carry out fabrication, cutting, fitting, joint preparation, and metal repair work.
• Select the appropriate welding process, electrodes, filler materials, and equipment for each task.
  Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
• Measure, mark, cut, align, and position metal components accurately before welding.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, and joint alignment before and after welding.
• Operate welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, and related tools safely.
• Check equipment settings, cables, gas connections, electrodes, and consumables before starting work.
• Report equipment malfunctions and assist with routine maintenance.
• Maintain welding tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Produce strong, uniform, and defect-free welds in accordance with approved specifications.
• Inspect completed welds for cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and other visible defects.
• Perform necessary grinding, cleaning, finishing, and rework.
• Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable quality standards.
• Coordinate with quality inspectors for weld inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT), where required.

Preferred candidate profile

• Proficiency in one or more welding processes: TIG, MIG/MAG, ARC/SMAW, FCAW, or SAW.
• Knowledge of welding positions, joint types, and metal properties.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, or other specified metals.
• Knowledge of welding defects, inspection methods, and quality requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of industrial safety procedures and PPE requirements.

• Education: ITI / Diploma in Welding, Fabrication, or a related technical trade is preferred.
• Experience: Typically 25 years of relevant welding experience, depending on the employer's requirements.
• Certification: Relevant welding qualifications or process-specific certifications may be required.
• Additional requirements: Ability to pass a practical welding test and work in industrial, construction, fabrication, shipyard, or maintenance environments as applicable.
