Tool Crib Engineer

Role Purpose

Manage tooling inventory, issue and return activities, and tool availability to support uninterrupted CNC machining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, identify, store, and issue cutting tools, inserts, holders, collets, and accessories.
• Maintain accurate stock, tool issue, return, and consumption records in Excel or ERP.
• Coordinate tooling requirements with CAM, Production, Planning, and Procurement.
• Monitor minimum stock levels and raise purchase requisitions on time.
• Track tool life, breakages, regrinding, and reconditioning activities.
• Support tool assembly and presetting as required.
• Verify calibration status before issuing gauges and measuring instruments.
• Segregate damaged, worn, and unserviceable tools.
• Conduct physical stock verification and resolve inventory discrepancies.
• Maintain tool traceability, preservation, 5S, and FOD prevention practices.
• Prepare tooling consumption and cost reports; identify opportunities to reduce wastage.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of CNC milling tools, drills, taps, reamers, inserts, and tool holding systems.
• Understanding of tooling specifications and aerospace shopfloor requirements.
• Proficiency in MS Excel; ERP/SAP inventory experience preferred.
• Strong inventory control, documentation, and coordination skills.

• Timely tooling availability and minimum production stoppages.
• Accurate inventory and complete issue/return records.
• Reduced tool losses and avoidable consumption.
• Compliance with tool condition and calibration controls.
