ETL Tester / Data Tester Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced ETL Tester / Data Tester responsible for validating data extraction, transformation, and loading processes across various data sources and target systems. The candidate should have strong experience in ETL testing, SQL, data validation, and data quality testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute ETL test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts.
• Validate data extracted from source systems and loaded into target databases/data warehouses.
• Perform source-to-target data validation and reconciliation.
• Verify ETL mappings, transformations, business rules, and data integrity.
• Write complex SQL queries for data validation and backend testing.
• Perform data completeness, accuracy, consistency, and integrity testing.
• Validate data transformations, aggregations, joins, filters, and calculations.
• Identify data discrepancies and perform root-cause analysis.
• Test incremental and full data loads.
• Perform ETL regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Validate data migration between databases and data warehouse platforms.
• Log, track, and manage defects using tools such as Jira, ALM, or similar.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, ETL Developers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare test reports and communicate testing status, defects, and risks.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong experience in ETL Testing / Data Warehouse Testing.
• Excellent SQL skills.
• Experience with source-to-target validation.
• Good understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience in testing data pipelines and data transformations.
• Knowledge of data quality and data reconciliation.
• Experience with test case creation, execution, defect management, and reporting.
• Good understanding of databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Teradata, etc.

Good to Have

• Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, SSIS, DataStage, AWS Glue, etc.
• Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Synapse, BigQuery, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of Python for data validation/automation.
• Experience with API testing and data integration testing.
• Exposure to CI/CD and test automation frameworks.
