About this role
Job Title: Distributor Lubrication Engineer (DLE)
Department: Technical Sales / Engineering
Reports To: Sales Manager / Technical Director
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Pune / Kolhapur
Job Overview
The Distributor Lubrication Engineer (DLE) serves as the primary technical authority for our lubricant distribution operations. This role bridges the gap between mechanical engineering and B2B sales, working in tandem with Sales Representatives to secure and defend high-value industrial and commercial automotive accounts. The DLE is responsible for conducting site audits, troubleshooting equipment failures, and demonstrating the monetary value of premium and synthetic lubricants through documented Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) savings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Field Support & Troubleshooting
- Conduct comprehensive plant lubrication surveys and equipment audits to identify consolidation opportunities, inefficiencies, and application improvements.
- Troubleshoot customer equipment issues (e.g., bearing wear, hydraulic thermal degradation, gear pitting) and recommend corrective lubrication strategies.
- Manage and interpret Used Oil Analysis (UOA) programs, delivering actionable maintenance insights to plant managers and reliability engineers.
- Oversee product trials and field tests to ensure proper application and monitor performance metrics.
2. Value Selling & Commercial Execution
- Partner with DSRs on joint customer visits to target high-potential accounts and support complex technical sales cycles.
- Develop and present Documented Benefit Reports (DBRs) and Proof of Performance (PoP) case studies that quantify energy savings, extended drain intervals, and reduced downtime.
- Drive the conversion of standard tier/mineral oil customers to premium and synthetic product lines.
3. Training & Technical Enablement
- Act as the internal subject matter expert, training the team on product specifications, OEM approvals, and competitive positioning.
- Conduct technical seminars, workshops, and "Lube 101" training sessions for customers' maintenance and engineering staffs.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of industry trends, OEM manual updates, and new environmental compliance standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Diploma or a closely related technical field.
- Experience: 35 years of experience in industrial maintenance, reliability engineering, or technical B2B sales (fluids, bearings, heavy machinery).
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of industrial equipment (compressors, hydraulics, turbines, gearboxes) and heavy-duty diesel engines.
- Commercial Skills: Proven ability to translate complex engineering data into clear commercial value propositions for procurement and C-level decision-makers.
Skills & Competencies
- Analytical Problem Solving: Ability to read schematics, interpret chemical data, and diagnose root-cause mechanical failures.
- Communication: Exceptional presentation skills, capable of speaking effectively to both shop-floor mechanics and executive plant managers.
- Collaboration: Strong team-player mindset to work seamlessly with DSRs rather than competing for account control.
Reasoning, Analytical, Debugging, Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Tools: Technical reporting tools, and MS Office (especially Excel for TCO calculations).
Working Conditions
- Travel: Requires significant field travel (typically 60-80% within the assigned territory) visiting manufacturing plants, mines, or fleets.
- Environment: Frequent exposure to industrial manufacturing environments, requiring adherence to strict safety and PPE protocols.
