VP of Engineering

We are looking for a strong Engineering Leader/VP of Engineering/engineering director who can work closely with the CEO to drive product engineering, technology strategy, and execution.

The ideal candidate should be a hands-on technology leader with strong experience in building and scaling B2B products and engineering teams, along with deep expertise in full-stack engineering and AI/GenAI technologies. Candidates from B2B unicorns, high-growth product companies, IoT/connected systems, or maritime/industrial technology will be highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Partner closely with the CEO to define and execute the product and technology roadmap, translating customer requirements and business objectives into scalable engineering solutions.
• Own end-to-end product engineering and delivery, ensuring high product quality, timely execution, scalability, and reliability.
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering organization, fostering ownership, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Drive engineering best practices around architecture, coding standards, code reviews, testing, DevOps, security, and Agile methodologies.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and contribute to architecture, technology decisions, scalability, and critical engineering initiatives when required.
• Scale and stabilize the platform to support a growing B2B customer base, new product capabilities, and third-party integrations.
• Drive adoption of modern technologies, including generative AI, LLMs, agentic AI, computer vision, and NLP, to enhance product capabilities.
• Work closely with Product, Business, Customer Success, and other functions to ensure strong alignment between technology and business goals.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on product excellence, innovation, delivery, and talent retention.

The core requirements for the job include the following:

Engineering Leadership:

• 15-20 years of overall software engineering experience.
• Proven experience in VP Engineering / Engineering Director / Head of Engineering / Principal Architect with significant execution ownership roles.
• Strong track record of building, scaling, and leading high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience owning engineering strategy, architecture, roadmap, delivery, and technical execution.

Full Stack Engineering (Must Have):

• Strong experience in full-stack product engineering.
• Node.js and/or React.js experience is strongly preferred and will be a key requirement.
• Candidates with equivalent modern full-stack technologies can also be considered if they have strong hands-on engineering and architecture experience.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, databases, cloud infrastructure, and scalable application architecture.

AI / GenAI (Must Have):

• Strong and demonstrated experience in AI/ML and modern generative AI, preferably including LLMs, generative AI, agentic AI/AI agents, computer vision, NLP, RAG/LLM applications, and AI-powered enterprise/product use cases.
• The candidate should have actual product/technology ownership or hands-on experience, rather than only mentioning AI/ML as a keyword.

B2B Product Experience (Must Have):

• Strong experience building and scaling B2B / enterprise products.
• Experience supporting enterprise customers, integrations, complex workflows, and large-scale platforms.
• Experience taking a product through significant growth/scaling stages, preferably within a venture-backed product company.

Stable Career Profile (Must Have):

• Strong career stability with meaningful tenure in previous organizations.
• Preference for candidates who have demonstrated 3+ year tenures in their major roles, particularly during the last 10 years.
• Shorter stints should have a clear and credible explanation.

Highly Preferred / Strongest Profiles:

• Candidates with the following background will be considered exceptionally relevant:
• Experience in a B2B unicorn/high-growth B2B product company.
• Strong IoT/connected devices/telemetry/real-time systems experience.
• Combination of IoT, AI/ML, full-stack, and B2B product engineering.
• Experience in maritime technology, shipping, logistics, fleet management, industrial automation, marine systems, or other physical-world technology platforms.
• Experience building technology products for global enterprise customers.
• Experience scaling engineering teams and platforms through rapid business growth.
• Experience working directly with founders/CEOs and owning technology/product engineering strategy.

Technology and Architecture:

• Strong understanding of Node.js / React.js / Full Stack Engineering, JavaScript / TypeScript or equivalent modern technologies, Microservices and Distributed Systems, REST APIs / Third-party Integrations, AWS / Azure / GCP, Kubernetes / Docker, Redis, SQL / NoSQL databases, Database architecture, modelling, and scalability, Data engineering / data-driven decision making, High-availability and highly scalable cloud platforms, cybersecurity, application security, and risk mitigation
• AI and Emerging Technology: Strong exposure to one or more of the following: Generative AI, LLMs, Agentic AI / Multi-Agent Systems, RAG, Computer Vision, NLP, AI-powered automation, AI-enabled enterprise products, AI/ML model integration and productionization

• B2B Product/Unicorn + strong AI/GenAI + Full Stack.
• IoT / Industrial Tech / Connected Systems + B2B Product.
• Maritime / Shipping / Logistics / Fleet / Industrial Technology.
• Strong B2B SaaS/enterprise product companies with relevant AI and engineering leadership experience.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• We are looking for an engineering leader who combines strong technical depth with product and business thinking; someone who can work closely with the CEO, understand customer and business requirements, define technology direction, and personally drive execution when required.
• The strongest candidates will bring a combination of B2B product leadership, full-stack expertise (Node.js/React.js or equivalent), deep AI/GenAI capabilities, IoT/connected-system experience, and a stable career track record.
