Underwriter / Sr. Underwriter / SME Non QM Loans

Role & responsibilities

• Review and underwrite U.S. Non-QM mortgage loans in accordance with investor, lender and company guidelines.
• Analyze borrower income, assets, credit, liabilities and overall profile to determine loan eligibility.
• Underwrite Non-QM products including DSCR, Bank Statement, Asset Depletion, P&L/1099, Foreign National, and other alternative-income programs.
• Review loan files for completeness, accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines.
• Analyze complex income documentation, including bank statements, tax returns, P&L statements, 1099s, and other supporting documents.
• Identify potential risks, discrepancies, and red flags and determine appropriate conditions or resolutions.
• Issue loan decisions, conditions and approvals/denials within established turnaround times.
• Review and clear conditions submitted by processors and other stakeholders.
• Ensure all underwriting decisions are well documented and supported by applicable guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with processors, loan officers, account managers and other internal teams to resolve loan-level issues.
• Maintain strong quality and accuracy while meeting productivity and SLA/TAT expectations.
• Stay updated on changes to Non-QM guidelines, investor requirements, and underwriting policies.
• For SME-level candidates, provide guidance and support to junior underwriters and assist with complex or escalated files.
• Perform QC/review of underwriting decisions when required and help identify recurring issues or training opportunities.

Preferred candidate profile

• Only Candidates with hands-on experience in U.S. mortgage underwriting and Non-QM products will be considered.
