Job Description (JD) Tool Room Quality Engineer

Qualification Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

1. Job Responsibilities

• Ensure quality inspection of tool room activities, including tool manufacturing, machining, grinding, fitting, assembly, and tool maintenance.
• Inspect tooling components as per engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
• Perform dimensional inspection of dies, punches, inserts, core pins, cavities, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Verify component dimensions using Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Bore Gauges, Dial Indicators, and CMM.
• Monitor machining operations such as CNC, VMC, EDM, Wire Cut EDM, surface grinding, and cylindrical grinding for quality compliance.
• Verify material grades, hardness, heat treatment, and surface finish as per specifications.
• Ensure proper fitment, alignment, clearance, and assembly of tooling components.
• Conduct inspection during tool manufacturing, final tool assembly, and tool tryout.
• Identify and control non-conforming tooling components and coordinate rework or rejection decisions.
• Analyze tool room quality problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain inspection reports, dimensional reports, rejection records, and tool history records.
• Coordinate with Tool Design, Tool Room, Production, Maintenance, and Supplier Quality teams.
• Ensure calibration of measuring instruments and compliance with quality procedures.

2. Technical Skills Required

• Engineering drawing reading and interpretation.
• GD&T and dimensional inspection.
• Knowledge of tool room manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of CNC/VMC, EDM, Wire Cut EDM, grinding, and fitting processes.
• Tool steel identification, hardness testing, and heat treatment knowledge.
• CMM operation and programming knowledge, preferably.
• Root Cause Analysis, 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, 8D, and CAPA.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 requirements, where applicable.
