About
Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited (KICL) has a distinguished legacy dating back to 1917 when it was founded as Kotharis & Sons in the Madras (now Chennai) by Chandula Mothilal Kothari, a prominent businessman and lawyer from Kutch, Gujarat. His son, D.C.Kothari, joined the company in 1930 and played an important role in establishing the Madras Stock Exchange in 1937. In the early 2000s, KICL was going through assorted difficulties. The turning point came in 2013 when Dr. Jinnah Rafiq Ahmed joined KICL as an investor. Working tirelessly to bring back investor confidence, he has managed to beef up the financial position of the company. Today, KICL is a debt-free company.
Ever since it came under new management a few years ago, KICL has been through a major overhaul in management, human resources and business focus. According to Rafiq Ahmed, the new management is determined to reinvent and invigorate the brand Kothari, which has a long and illustrious legacy. KICL has developed many business verticals, including Kothari Fertilizers and Agro Division, Kothari Footwear, Kothari Geospatial and Drone Technologies, Kothari Public School, Kothari Foods (Una Villa, Una Villa Traditional, Pattukottai Mess), Tech Kothari and Kothari Media (Industrial Economist and Vivasayi Express). He is working hard to make KICL a multi-sector company. He is convinced that historical institutions such as Kotharis must be supported and sustained. In line with this thought process, he is also working hard to resurrect Industrial Economist, an over 50-year-old business magazine published from Chennai. He is focused on institutional building, and carrying the traditional forward.
