    About this role

The Tekla Detailer/Modeler/Draftsman will be responsible for creating accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models and detailed shop/erection drawings for PEB and heavy steel structures using Tekla Structures, based on architectural and structural engineering inputs. Working within the Design Department alongside structural engineers, the role translates approved structural designs into precise connection details, fabrication drawings, and material lists that the workshop and site teams can build and erect directly from with minimal rework or clarification queries.

    Key Responsibilities

    3D Modeling & Detailing

    • Develop detailed 3D models of PEB and heavy steel structures in Tekla Structures, based on architectural drawings, structural design, and GA drawings provided by the structural engineer.
    • Model primary and secondary steel members, connections, base plates, purlins, girts, bracing, and other structural components accurately and to scale, including precise dimensions, clearances, and tolerances.
    • Detail bolted and welded connections in line with structural engineering requirements, selecting appropriate connection types and ensuring structural integrity in accordance with relevant design codes and standards.
    • Incorporate architectural, mechanical, and other trade inputs into the model where relevant to avoid clashes during fabrication and erection.
    • Perform clash detection and coordinate model revisions to resolve conflicts before issuing drawings for fabrication.

    Drawing & Documentation Output

    • Generate accurate shop/fabrication drawings for individual steel members and assemblies, including plates, angles, and bolts, for use on the workshop floor.
    • Generate erection drawings and GA drawings for site installation teams, clearly indicating piece marks, connection details, and erection sequence references.
    • Extract and prepare Bills of Materials (BOM), cutting lists, and material take-offs directly from the Tekla model for procurement, cost estimation, and production planning.
    • Maintain drawing revision control, ensuring the latest approved version is always issued to production and site teams, and maintain a well-documented revision history including RFIs (Requests for Information).
    • Number and mark all fabrication pieces systematically to support accurate tracking through fabrication, dispatch, and erection.

    Coordination & Quality Control

    • Coordinate closely with the structural engineer to ensure the model reflects the approved structural design and calculations.
    • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other members of the design team to resolve design conflicts, clarify specifications, and confirm the accuracy and feasibility of the structural design.
    • Liaise with the production team to confirm detailing is practical for the workshop's fabrication capabilities and equipment.
    • Support the site/installation team, fabricators, and steel erectors by clarifying erection sequence, piece identification, and connection details, and resolving construction-related issues during execution.
    • Check and self-verify models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications, local building codes, and client-specific requirements before issue.
    • Participate in design/detailing reviews and incorporate revisions promptly and accurately.

    Software & Process Management

    • Maintain and organize the Tekla model database/project files in an organized, retrievable manner.
    • Keep up to date with Tekla Structures updates, plugins, and best practices relevant to PEB and steel detailing.
    • Support standardization of detailing templates, connection libraries, and drawing standards to improve modeling efficiency across projects.
    • Actively identify and implement process improvements, including automation opportunities within Tekla, to enhance detailing productivity and efficiency.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering, or a Diploma in Draughtsmanship/CAD with strong Tekla Structures experience.
    • 5–8 years of hands-on experience in Tekla Structures modeling and detailing, specifically for PEB and/or heavy steel structures.
    • Age 28–35 years.
    • Prior experience detailing warehouses, industrial sheds, steel bridges, towers, or similar structures is highly desirable.
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an added advantage.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Tekla Proficiency: Advanced, hands-on proficiency in Tekla Structures for 3D modeling, detailing, and generating fabrication drawings and erection plans for PEB and heavy steel structures.
    • Structural Engineering Knowledge: Solid understanding of structural engineering principles, including the behavior of steel structures, connections, and load-bearing elements, to ensure accurate modeling and detailing.
    • Blueprint/Drawing Reading: Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, including plans, elevations, and sections, to translate project requirements into detailed models and drawings.
    • Detailing Accuracy & Drafting Skills: Strong attention to detail and proficient drafting skills in modeling connections, piece marking, and dimensioning, given the direct impact on fabrication accuracy.
    • Drawing Standards & Codes: Sound understanding of fabrication and erection drawing conventions used in the steel construction industry, and familiarity with relevant building codes and industry standards to ensure compliance and structural integrity.
    • Coordination: Ability to work closely with structural engineers, architects, production, and site teams to ensure the model and drawings match real-world fabrication and erection needs.
    • Material Take-off Skills: Capable of accurately extracting BOM, cutting lists, and weight data from the model for costing and procurement.
    • Problem-Solving: Able to identify and resolve clashes, design conflicts, and constructability issues before they reach the workshop or site.
    • Time Management: Able to manage multiple detailing packages and meet production/site drawing-issue deadlines.
    • Communication: Effective communication skills for collaborating with architects, engineers, fabricators, and contractors to clarify requirements and resolve conflicts.
    • Language: Proficiency in English required.
