Technology Leader- Risk

About the Role

This is a strategic leadership role at the intersection of quantitative finance, engineering excellence, and regulatory technology, responsible for defining and scaling the next-generation Risk Technology ecosystem for the Bank and evolving Kotak's strategic risk platforms, including Stratum and Risk Central, into a unified, enterprise-grade risk ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the long-term technology strategy for Risk Platforms aligned to business growth, risk governance, and regulatory priorities.
• Build and operate the Bank's next-generation enterprise risk platform supporting intraday and end-of-day risk management capabilities.
• Drive modernization of legacy systems toward API-first, cloud-ready, event-driven, and highly resilient architectures.
• Establish scalable quantitative engineering capabilities supporting risk calculations, analytics, stress testing, capital management, and regulatory reporting.
• Build future-ready AI and analytics capabilities that enhance decision-making, risk monitoring, and operational effectiveness.
• Partner closely with Risk, Treasury, Quantitative Research, Finance, Compliance, Operations, and Technology leadership teams to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Enterprise Architecture

• Define the target-state architecture for Risk Technology platforms and engineering ecosystems.
• Lead modernization of fragmented and batch-oriented systems into real-time, event-driven, highly scalable platforms.
• Establish reusable architecture patterns, governance frameworks, engineering standards, and technology roadmaps across the portfolio.
• Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures, API platforms, data modernization, and platform engineering best practices.
• Ensure scalability, resilience, observability, security, and operational excellence across mission-critical risk systems.

Risk Platforms & Quantitative Engineering

• Lead technology strategy, architecture, and delivery across Market Risk, Credit and Counterparty Risk, Risk Limits Management, Exposure Aggregation and Monitoring, VaR and Sensitivity Frameworks, FRTB and Capital Calculations, Stress Testing, PnL Attribution and Scenario Analysis, Treasury Risk and Liquidity Management, Regulatory Reporting, and Enterprise Risk Management.
• Own the evolution of Risk Central as the enterprise-wide risk intelligence platform supporting intraday and end-of-day risk calculations, aggregations, monitoring, reporting, and analytics capabilities.

AI, Data & Risk Intelligence

• Drive the Risk AI agenda through advanced analytics, predictive intelligence, and automated decision-support capabilities.
• Enable use cases including anomaly detection, limit-breach prediction, scenario modelling, risk forecasting, and PnL attribution analytics.
• Establish robust data governance, lineage, metadata management, and model governance practices.
• Build governed and auditable AI/ML pipelines that meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Partner with data science and quantitative teams to accelerate innovation while maintaining strong risk controls.

Engineering Excellence & Platform Reliability

• Champion engineering excellence through DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, SRE, and secure SDLC practices.
• Drive architecture quality, code quality, observability, reliability engineering, and production resilience.
• Build high-performance engineering teams capable of operating at scale within a regulated banking environment.
• Improve engineering productivity through automation, standardization, platform enablement, and continuous improvement.

Leadership & Talent Building

• Build, mentor, and scale high-performing teams across Engineering, Quantitative Engineering, Data Platforms, Architecture.
• Create a culture of ownership, innovation, accountability, and engineering excellence.
• Drive leadership development, succession planning, workforce capability building, and organizational effectiveness.
• Attract top talent from global banking, capital markets, fintech, and deep-tech technology ecosystems.

Stakeholder Management & Governance

• Partner with senior leaders across Risk, Treasury, Finance, Compliance, Operations, and Technology functions.
• Represent Risk Technology in architecture councils, regulatory engagements, audit reviews, and governance forums.
• Ensure technology platforms meet RBI, SEBI, audit, security, and compliance requirements.
• Act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on technology investments, modernization opportunities, and risk transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline.
• Advanced qualifications in Risk Management or Enterprise Architecture would be advantageous.
