This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Lead (GovCon | Public Trust Eligibility) based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership opportunity focused on modernizing mission-critical software systems in a federal environment. You will shape backend architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native solutions across complex enterprise applications. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, architecture ownership, and mentorship. You will collaborate closely with product, architecture, DevSecOps, infrastructure, and other technical teams. Your work will contribute to secure, scalable, and maintainable platforms supporting important government missions. This fully remote position is suited to an experienced engineer who wants meaningful technical ownership and mission-driven impact.
Accountabilities:: Lead the design, development, modernization, and deployment of enterprise software systems supporting federal mission requirements.
Drive technical execution across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and system design through deployment and operational support.
Architect and develop scalable backend applications and APIs using REST and GraphQL, applying modern software engineering practices.
Lead architecture reviews, system design discussions, technical decisions, and engineering standards across complex initiatives.
Design and implement distributed systems, microservices, integrations, and cloud-native applications in AWS or Azure environments.
Partner with product, architecture, DevSecOps, infrastructure, and other stakeholders to translate business and mission requirements into effective technical solutions.
Troubleshoot complex application, integration, and production performance issues while driving root-cause analysis and sustainable improvements.
Contribute to cloud modernization, application refactoring, platform engineering, secure software delivery, and CI/CD improvements.
Promote code quality, automated testing, API security, application security, and DevSecOps best practices.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, helping strengthen technical capabilities, engineering practices, and team standards.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
9+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial enterprise application development.
Strong hands-on expertise with Java, Spring Boot, OpenJDK, GraphQL, Ruby on Rails, and REST APIs.
Proven experience with backend architecture, distributed systems, microservices, system design, design patterns, and scalable enterprise applications.
Experience developing cloud-native solutions using AWS or Azure.
Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, source control, and DevSecOps workflows.
Strong understanding of secure software development, API security, and application security principles.
Experience troubleshooting production environments, performance tuning applications, and supporting operational systems.
Strong technical leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence engineering direction and lead technical discussions.
A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively on complex problems at scale.
Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, event-driven architecture, or serverless platforms is a plus.
Familiarity with Zero Trust principles and secure systems integration is desirable.
Previous experience supporting federal government agencies is advantageous.
U.S. citizenship is required for Public Trust eligibility.
Benefits:
Salary: $140,000–$165,000 USD base salary, with compensation determined by experience, education, skills, and qualifications.
