About this role
Role & responsibilities
Core Pillars of Responsibility
1. Flavor Creation & Formulation Architecture
- Creation Governance: Lead creation flavorists and technical formulators in designing novel, proprietary taste profiles, natural extracts, and clean-label taste solutions that align with global regulatory trends.
- Benchmark Matching & Rebuilding: Direct cost-effective, high-precision rebuilding and matching of competitive market flavor benchmarks using Synthites proprietary extract and bio-ingredient portfolio.
- Natural & Bio-Ingredient Synergy: Leverage deep technical expertise in botanicals, essential oils, and oleoresins to pioneer clean-label off-note masking, mouthfeel enhancement, and authentic taste delivery.
2. Matrix Application & Scale-Up Execution
- Application Integrity: Oversee comprehensive application testing across key customer product matrices (Beverages, Culinary/Savory, Dairy, TCCC, and Bakery) to guarantee heat stability, solubility, shelf-life performance, and flavor release.
- Bench-to-Pilot Scale-Up: Ensure seamless transition of application formulations from laboratory bench scale to industrial pilot plants and customer production environments without compromising sensory profiles.
- Technical Problem Solving: Provide high-level technical leadership to resolve
complex matrix challenges (e.g., masking high-protein/botanical off-notes,
sugar/fat reduction reformulation, pH stability).
3. Commercial Alignment & Brief Conversion (Commercial Head Synergy)
- Dual-Reporting Commercial Integration: Work in close synchronization with theCommercial Head Taste, Key Account Manager, and Category Managers to align
technical pipeline priorities with high-value commercial opportunities and market
demand.
- Brief Velocity & Success Rate: Institutionalize rapid-response protocols for client
briefs, ensuring high hit-rates, technical accuracy, and rapid sample turnaround
times for strategic accounts.
- Customer Co-Creation: Lead technical co-creation sessions and innovation days,
sensory workshops, and direct technical exchanges with client R&D and
procurement teams to accelerate product sign-offs.
4. Application Infrastructure & Sensory Systems
- Global Lab Standards: Establish standardized protocols, SOPs, and testing methods
across all global creation and application labs to ensure consistent quality and
repeatable application results worldwide.
- Analytical-Sensory Correlation: Integrate sensory panel evaluations with analytical
chemistry data (GC-MS, LC-MS) to objectively map taste dynamics, flavor release
profiles, and quality control baselines.
- Formulation Database Management: Build and govern a centralized formulation
library and ingredient database to maximize IP retention and speed up
development cycles.
5. Technical Talent & Team Leadership
- Capability Building: Mentor and grow a multi-disciplinary team of flavorists, food
technologists, application scientists, and sensory experts.
- Cross-Functional Bridge: Serve as the strategic operational bridge connecting
upstream extraction R&D (under the CTO) with downstream commercial go-tomarket
teams (under the Commercial Head).
Organizational Authority & Scope
- Technical Governance: Ultimate sign-off authority on formulation integrity,
sensory validation, and matrix application stability across all taste projects.
- Matrix Reporting Structure: Solid line operational and administrative governance
under the Head of Bio Solutions; dotted line functional, technical, and scientific
alignment under the Chief Technical Officer (CTO), maintaining close commercial
synchronization with the Commercial Head – Taste.
Profile of the Ideal Leader
- Technical Expertise: Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Food Science, Flavor
Chemistry, Chemistry, or related fields with 12–15+ years of experience in flavor

creation, application development, and sensory science within top-tier globallavor/ingredient companies.
- Matrix & Commercial Acumen: Proven ability to thrive in a dual-reporting matrix
structure - balancing technical rigor with commercial urgency to drive brief
conversion and revenue growth.
- Creation Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading flavorists and application
scientists, scaling creation laboratories, and managing complex formulation
libraries in natural extracts and bio-ingredients.
- Executive Presence: Highly capable of leading technical exchanges with enterprise
