About this role
Overview
Were looking for a capable Technical Engineer in the water treatment industry to support product selections and internal teams across the full lifecycle of a project - from early proposals to product selections, technical documentation, and day-to-day troubleshooting. Primarily you will focus on the key areas of water treatment; including scale control, bacterial control, filtration and chemical dosing.
The role will start with simple product selections from a core range of standard items, matching from a catalogue of >100 products to suit customer needs via reviewing schematics, schedules and specification documents.
As you progress you will work more on bespoke systems in partnership with suppliers; collaborating with UK technical engineers, CAD technicians, panel builders, and project teams to bring systems to life. The long-term view would see you designing reverse osmosis packages and full datacentre packaged plantrooms. Here you would liaise with multiple suppliers across several engineering disciplines including mechanical, process, control, and civil interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide technical support to UK Technical Team in varied tasks and administration
- Issue product selections from off the shelf units to meet customer needs
- Analyse water quality to tailor unit selections and recommendations
- Assess consultant designs for suitability of water treatment units listed, and produce technical caveats where required
- LSI analysis for local water quality to determine likelihood of scale formation
- Analyse and build compliant proposals, including technical submittals to contractors
- Provide working knowledge and support to other departments on standard water treatment
- Evaluate material choices (e.g. HDPE, uPVC, SS316, GRP) based on chemical, temperature, and pressure requirements
Internal Tools & Process Improvement
- Use and improve internal tools such as costings sheets, unit comparisons, commissioning and servicing arrangements
- Contribute to template and standard development for calculations, drawings, and documentation
- Maintain project files and structure within SharePoint
Procurement & Technical Submittals
- Prepare procurement schedules and manage RFQs across mechanical and electrical scopes
- Create technical submittals based on offered units against required specifications
- Engage with suppliers to obtain technical and commercial proposals
- Identify datasheet requirements and liaise with marketing teams to produce
- Format and complete equipment schedules and full techno commercial offers
- Ensure alignment between technical documentation, supplier specifications, and project requirements
Datacentre and Large Project Packages/Proposals
- Support process design across water and wastewater projects (filtration, chemical dosing, piping, distribution, disinfection, etc.)
- Estimate costs for proposed system by liaising with multiple suppliers and analysing offered units for compliant design
- Specify and select mechanical components: pumps, blowers, strainers, valves, filters, dosing units, and pressure vessels
- Support proposal-stage design and concept development
- Assist with process selections, BOQs, and outline drawings during bidding
- Ensure designs account for operational practicality - access, maintenance space, valve orientation, and drainability
- Produce hydraulic, chemical dosing, and mechanical calculations
- Work with CAD technicians to develop detailed general arrangement (GA) drawings, P&IDs, equipment layout plans, and mechanical schematics
- Coordinate the mechanical layout and integration of treatment systems, ensuring compatibility between equipment, pipework, and site infrastructure
- Develop control philosophies, interlocks, alarms, and HMI sequences
- Work with panel builders to review layouts, define IO schedules, and support PLC integration
- Specify instrumentation (e.g. level, pressure, pH) and control components (e.g. VFDs, starters, relays)
Required Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of process/mechanical water systems (e.g. filtration, pipework & fittings, chemical dosing, scale control, bacterial control)
- Effective communicator with strong English (written and spoken); confident with technical discussions
- Experience working through project schematics, schedules, specifications and reviewing client documentation
- Good working knowledge of Excel; familiar with SharePoint
- Competent in hydraulic and chemical calculations, and technical documentation
- Comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and civil interfaces
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of packaged systems and modular treatment plants
- Good understanding of control systems: panel layouts, IO schedules, instrumentation, VFDs
- Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment process engineering (industrial or commercial)
- Experience preparing RFQs, reviewing supplier offers, and coordinating procurement
- Understanding of datacentre water requirement for potable and industrial use (system cooling, closed loops, piping and instrumentation requirements)
- Practical experience with water treatment systems to ensure compliant designs
- Previous exposure to site work or projects in Europe
What Youll Get
- Hands-on involvement in full-cycle project delivery
- Exposure to a broad mix of process, mechanical, electrical, and civil design
- Opportunities to improve internal engineering standards and tools
- Project visibility from concept to commissioning
- Direct collaboration with leadership
- Flexible working from home arrangement and international support via Microsoft Teams
