About this role
Company Description Datatex is a leading global provider of ERP solutions designed specifically for the textile and apparel industry, with more than 30 years of experience and over 20,000 users worldwide. Its flagship NOW ERP platform supports the entire value chain, from fiber to finished garments, covering sales, planning, production, costing, inventory, finance, scheduling, and compliance. Through Geasoft, Datatex also delivers specialized ERP solutions for the footwear and leather industry, helping brands and manufacturers manage complex materials, variants, and workflows. As part of Textile Solutions Group (TSG), Datatex is supported by a global network offering MES, CAD/CAM, automation, and advanced analytics to connect design, planning, and production in real time. The company focuses on helping customers reduce waste, improve on-time delivery, optimize resources, and demonstrate sustainability in the face of evolving market and regulatory demands.
The Role We're hiring Technical Consultants to join our global Customization Center of Excellence, building extensions for the Datatex NOW ERP platform deployed at textile and apparel manufacturers worldwide. You'll write Java EE customizations on our low-code ABSolution platform, contributing to multi-country implementations valued at $200K–$2M+. This is a hands-on development role for a mid-level engineer - 3–5 years of experience - who wants to apply Java EE skills to a domain-specific platform, accelerate their work with AI tools, and grow into deep ERP customization expertise over time. You'll work in a globally distributed team (Italy, India, Israel, Americas) reporting to a regional Team Lead, with day-to-day collaboration with Functional Consultants, Senior TCs, and code reviewers.
What You'll Do Develop customizations - Build extensions to the standard NOW ERP platform using ABSolution's Scenario Language (which compiles to Java EE). Most work follows established patterns: Extends, Policy, InterfaceSession, and EntityBean. You'll learn the patterns in your first weeks and apply them to real customer requirements from week three onwards.
Write quality code - Follow established standards for naming, structure, testing, and documentation. Submit work through code review. Fix defects promptly. Care about maintainability - your code will be read, debugged, and extended by other developers years from now.
Use AI as a multiplier - Datatex provides AI development tools to every TC. We expect you to use them daily, share prompt patterns that work, and continuously improve your AI-assisted workflow.
Collaborate across the team - Work with Functional Consultants who write the specs you implement. Review other TCs' code. Ask questions when unclear, raise concerns when something looks wrong, and contribute to the shared knowledge base.
What You Bring
- 3–5 years of professional Java development experience with solid Java EE / Jakarta EE foundations (EJB, JPA, Servlets). You can read generated EJB code and reason about transactions, persistence, and lifecycle.
- Strong SQL skills. Comfortable writing joins, subqueries, and analytical queries against a relational database. DB2 experience is a strong plus; Oracle / PostgreSQL / SQL Server backgrounds transfer well.
- Object-oriented programming fundamentals. You understand inheritance, composition, encapsulation, and when to apply them. You can explain SOLID without reading the Wikipedia page.
- Active use of AI development tools. You've used Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent in real work - not just experimented. You can describe a prompt or workflow that improved your productivity.
- Curiosity and learning agility. You're excited to learn an unfamiliar low-code platform, a new domain (textile and apparel manufacturing), and a Scenario Language you've never seen before.
- Clear written and verbal English. You'll work with global colleagues across time zones. You'll write commit messages, code review comments, and ticket updates that others depend on.
- APAC-based or willing to relocate. Currently in India, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, or willing to relocate within 3 months.
What Sets You Apart
- ERP platform experience (Datatex, SAP, Oracle, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, IFS, Workday) - even peripheral
- Textile, apparel, or manufacturing domain knowledge
- Eclipse IDE proficiency
- Experience with build tools (Maven, Gradle), version control (Git, SVN), and CI/CD pipelines
- Active contribution to open-source projects, technical blogs, or developer communities
- Experience working in globally distributed teams across multiple time zones
Why Datatex Datatex is the leading ERP platform for the textile and apparel industry, with a customer base spanning over 50 countries. Our Customization CoE is a global team of ~50 developers across four regions, and we're investing heavily in modern tooling, AI-assisted development, and structured engineering excellence. For a mid-level developer, this role offers the rare combination of: a deep, specialized domain to learn, a low-code platform that compiles to standard Java EE (so your skills stay portable), AI tooling subsidised and expected, a clear progression path (TC → Senior TC → Team Lead), and a team that genuinely uses code review, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning as part of daily practice. You'll write code that runs in factories making the clothes worn by people on five continents. Datatex is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and are committed to fostering an inclusive engineering culture.
