About this role
Job Title: Tech Generalist
Location: On-site in Goa
Experience: 1-2 years
Start: Immediately
Type: 6-months contract (extendable)
About Us The founders of Department of Lore, auteur Anand Gandhi (Ship of Theseus, Tumbbad) and visionary game designer Zain Memon (SHASN, AZADI), are looking for a resourceful Tech Generalist to help build the technology powering the MAYA Narrative Universe. After successfully launching the first MAYA novel, Seed Takes Root, we are now gearing up for the launch of the Universe's first MOBA-inspired tabletop game, alongside fulfilling our Kickstarter campaign and developing the digital platforms, tools, and internal systems that support an expanding transmedia ecosystem. This isn't a traditional software engineering role. We're looking for someone with a strong software engineering foundation who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, learning new technologies quickly, and building practical solutions across a wide range of domains.
What You'll Build Depending on the project, you may:
- Develop web applications and internal tools.
- Build and maintain websites and e-commerce platforms.
- Integrate third-party APIs and automate workflows.
- Prototype new products using modern web technologies.
- Develop AI-powered tools using LLM APIs and automation frameworks.
- Build dashboards, utilities, and operational software for the studio.
- Collaborate with designers, artists, producers, writers, and game designers to ship products.
What Makes You A Good Fit You're likely to thrive here if:
- AI-native development is already your default. Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools are part of how you build—not something you've only experimented with.
- You unblock teams. When people hit technical roadblocks, you're the person they turn to. You leave systems cleaner than you found them.
- You enjoy solving hard problems independently. You don't wait for detailed specifications—you investigate, prototype, and iterate.
- You've built something that solved a real problem in your own life. It could be an automation, a tool, a workflow, or an app. Tell us the story behind it.
- You can juggle multiple projects without dropping the ball. Context-switching energizes rather than overwhelms you.
- You're relentlessly curious. Learning a new language, framework, or technology doesn't intimidate you—it excites you.
- You care about the craft. You write code that's maintainable, communicate clearly, and take ownership from idea to execution.
What We're Looking For: Beyond technical ability, we're looking for someone who:
- Can independently learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Enjoys solving messy, open-ended problems.
- Has built real software outside coursework.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting for instructions.
- Can explain technical ideas clearly to non-technical teammates.
- Is excited about working across technology, games, publishing, AI, and storytelling.
Who Should Apply
- Software Engineers
- Full Stack Developers
- Backend Developers interested in product
- Frontend Developers who enjoy learning backend
- Computer Science graduates
- Engineers with startup experience
- Exceptional self-taught programmers
How To Apply Please email us on chiefofstaff@entermaya.com with your Resume, GitHub, Portfolio or personal website (if any), along with answers to these questions: 1. What is the most technically challenging thing you've built? 2. What problem did it solve? 3. Which parts did you build yourself? 4. What technology did you have to learn from scratch? 5. If we gave you one month to build anything for our studio, what would you build?
