About this role
We are looking for a skilled Systems Engineer to develop, maintain, and optimize a cross-platform endpoint agent for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The role focuses on building reliable, secure, and lightweight system-level software, including capabilities for desktop application blocking and endpoint control.
The ideal candidate will have strong systems programming fundamentals, proficiency in Rust or equivalent experience in C++/Go, and practical knowledge of operating system mechanisms for monitoring and controlling application execution. The candidate should be comfortable working with asynchronous programming, OS-level APIs, process management, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a lightweight endpoint agent for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Implement desktop application blocking and endpoint control capabilities using appropriate operating system APIs and security mechanisms.
- Develop efficient asynchronous components using Rust and Tokio.
- Work with OS-level application monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, including macOS Endpoint Security Framework (ESF), Linux fanotify, or Windows minifilters.
- Build and maintain cross-platform components while accounting for operating system-specific behavior and security requirements.
- Monitor process execution and implement reliable application identification and enforcement workflows.
- Optimize CPU usage, memory consumption, startup time, and overall agent performance.
- Write clean, safe, maintainable code with a strong focus on memory safety, reliability, and minimal resource usage.
- Debug complex system-level issues involving processes, permissions, operating system APIs, and application lifecycle events.
- Develop unit tests and integration tests to validate endpoint agent functionality across supported platforms.
- Collaborate with backend, product, and QA teams to integrate endpoint functionality with broader application workflows.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices.
Must-Have Technical Skills
- Systems Programming: 2+ years of professional experience in systems programming, preferably using Rust. Strong C++ or Go experience is also acceptable.
- Rust Programming: Understanding of ownership, borrowing, memory safety, error handling, and efficient resource management, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent systems programming expertise in C++/Go.
- Asynchronous Programming: Practical experience with async programming; Tokio experience is preferred for Rust-based development.
- Operating System Internals: Hands-on experience with at least one of the following:
- macOS Endpoint Security Framework (ESF)
- Linux fanotify
- Windows filesystem minifilters
- Cross-Platform Development: Experience developing, debugging, or maintaining software across multiple operating systems.
- Performance Optimization: Ability to build lightweight applications with low memory and CPU consumption.
- Code Quality: Strong focus on clean, safe, reliable, and maintainable code.
Desired Candidate Profile
- 2+ years of experience in systems programming or low-level software development.
- Strong understanding of operating system processes, application execution, permissions, and system APIs.
- Experience developing endpoint agents, security agents, process monitors, application control tools, or similar system-level software.
- Familiarity with operating system security models and mechanisms for monitoring or restricting application execution.
- Experience debugging platform-specific issues and handling differences between Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Knowledge of concurrency, synchronization, resource management, and error handling.
- Ability to write efficient code with a small memory footprint and minimal system overhead.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
