About this role
Key Roles and Responsibilities
A. Surveying and Setting-Out
- Establish, verify and maintain site benchmarks, reference points, grid lines, control points and survey stations in accordance with approved survey control information.
- Carry out setting-out for foundations, pile caps, columns, shear walls, beams, slabs, lift cores, staircases, blockwork and other structural or architectural elements.
- Transfer coordinates, levels, centre lines, offsets and elevations from approved drawings to the site accurately.
- Conduct horizontal and vertical alignment checks, plumb checks and level verification for ongoing construction activities.
- Provide timely survey support for excavation, foundation works, RCC structure, masonry, faade interfaces and finishing activities.
- Re-establish or verify disturbed survey points and immediately report discrepancies or potential errors.
B. Instruments and Technical Accuracy
- Operate and maintain total station, auto/digital level, theodolite, laser level, measuring instruments and other relevant surveying equipment.
- Perform instrument checks and routine calibration verification in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer guidance.
- Ensure instruments are handled, stored and transported safely; report damage, malfunction or calibration issues promptly.
- Use coordinates, bearings, reduced levels, offsets and benchmark data correctly and verify critical measurements through independent checks.
- Use AutoCAD, Excel and digital survey data files where required to review drawings, prepare calculations and record survey results.
C. Construction Monitoring and Quality
- Check excavation depth, formation levels, foundation locations, column positions, slab levels and other critical dimensions before subsequent work proceeds.
- Verify shuttering/formwork line, level, alignment and verticality before concreting, in coordination with the site engineer and QA/QC team.
- Carry out as-built surveys and record actual positions, elevations and dimensions of completed works.
- Support dimensional checks for masonry, openings, floor levels, faade setting-out, service penetrations and finishing works.
- Identify deviations from approved drawings or tolerances, document findings and promptly notify the responsible engineer.
- Support inspection requests and provide survey records or measurement data for quality documentation.
D. Coordination, Records and Reporting
- Coordinate daily with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, planning, QA/QC and consultants to prioritise survey requirements.
- Review the latest approved drawings and survey data before setting-out; seek clarification where dimensions, coordinates or levels conflict.
- Maintain clear records of benchmarks, control points, field books, survey calculations, setting-out data, level books and as-built information.
- Prepare daily activity updates and communicate completed checks, pending survey work, constraints and discrepancies.
- Protect survey control points from disturbance and ensure relevant teams know their location and intended use.
- Assist in quantity verification, site measurements and progress surveys when assigned.
Qualification and Experience
- Diploma in Civil Engineering, ITI / certificate in surveying, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Approximately 35 years of practical surveying experience on building construction projects.
- Preference for experience on high-rise commercial buildings, office towers, mixed-use developments or large residential towers.
- Hands-on experience with total station and auto/digital level is essential; experience with coordinate-based setting-out and as-built surveys is strongly preferred.
- Candidates should demonstrate sound understanding of construction drawings, grid systems, benchmarks, reduced levels and survey calculations.
