About the Role

We are seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) (Freelancer) to support advanced AI evaluation initiatives focused on perioperative care, surgical procedures, clinical decision-making, operative documentation, patient management, and AI-generated surgical content evaluation.

In this role, you will evaluate AI-generated surgical assessments, operative reports, perioperative care plans, clinical documentation, patient education materials, and procedural guidance. Your expertise will help improve AI systems designed for surgical decision support, clinical documentation, medical education, and healthcare AI applications.

This position is ideal for licensed Physician Assistants with experience in general surgery or surgical specialties such as orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, vascular surgery, or minimally invasive surgery.

Responsibilities

• Review AI-generated operative reports, surgical consultation notes, discharge summaries, postoperative care plans, procedural documentation, and patient counseling materials.
• Evaluate clinical reasoning involving surgical indications, perioperative risk assessment, postoperative management, wound care, infection prevention, pain management, and complication recognition.
• Verify AI-generated recommendations using current surgical guidelines, evidence-based practices, and specialty-specific standards of care.
• Identify diagnostic inaccuracies, procedural errors, documentation deficiencies, patient safety risks, unsupported recommendations, and clinical reasoning gaps.
• Provide structured feedback to improve AI performance in surgical reasoning, perioperative care, operative documentation, and patient education.
• Review peer-developed deliverables to maintain quality and consistency standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Active Physician Assistant (PA) license/certification and authorization to practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
• 2+ years of hands-on clinical experience in general surgery or a surgical specialty.
• Performing preoperative evaluations and postoperative patient management.
• Assisting surgeons during operative procedures.
• Managing surgical inpatients and outpatient follow-up care.
• Performing bedside procedures and wound management within scope of practice.
• Reviewing AI-generated surgical documentation and clinical recommendations for accuracy and patient safety.
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or similar platforms.
• Excellent clinical reasoning, analytical thinking, and written English communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in operating rooms, surgical hospitals, trauma centers, academic medical centers, or specialty surgical practices.
• Experience in one or more surgical specialties, including General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, ENT, Colorectal Surgery, or Surgical Oncology.
• Experience evaluating AI-generated operative reports, clinical decision-support systems, surgical workflows, or medical education content.
• Familiarity with minimally invasive surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols, and perioperative quality improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with Generative AI, prompt engineering, RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback), AI benchmarking, or healthcare AI evaluation is an advantage.
• Board certification, surgical fellowship training, research publications, or teaching experience are highly desirable.
