Job Description

The Opportunity

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical leader within a crossfunctional Agile team, responsible not only for building highquality software, but also for influencing design decisions, engineering standards, and best practices across the team.

You will work on complex, distributed systems and automation services that are foundational to Visas infrastructure reliability. You are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, translate ambiguous requirements into robust technical solutions, and provide guidance to other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

5+ years of relevant professional software engineering experience with a Bachelors degree, or equivalent practical experience with an advanced degree.

Proven ability to independently deliver complex software solutions in a production environment.

Experience working on highly available infrastructurefocused systems.

Prior experience mentoring engineers or acting as a technical lead on projects.

Familiarity with observability, resiliency engineering, and automation in distributed systems.

The Skills You Bring

Strong, handson experience with Java-J2EE, Spring Boot, and related enterprise frameworks.

Solid experience building distributed systems using RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

Proficiency in frontend development using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js).

Experience integrating AI-ML or Generative AI capabilities into production software systems

Experience using AIpowered tools to improve coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and refactoring while maintaining engineering rigor.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloudnative development patterns.

Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and system design principles.

Experience with automation and testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, REST Assured, Cypress, Groovy, Python).

Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and drive resolution of complex production issues.

Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical outcomes across teams.
