Staff Software Engineer (430 - 435)

Requirements:

• Have 8+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering in a large enterprise environment using a Java tech stack, including familiarity with modern frameworks and platforms (e. g., Java, Spring, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Be able to demonstrate significant experience working with relational databases, MySQL, and newer NoSQL data stores, as well as event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with cloud-native storage technologies such as AWS S3 storage.
• Have a strong interest in open-source technology.
• Possess good communication skills and enjoy mentoring and helping others to succeed as a team.
• Care about your craft and have opinions about the right way to do things with technology.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical direction and influencing design decisions across teams.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading code/design reviews at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous work experience in ad tech applications
• Experience working with vendor teams to deliver high-quality results
• Knowledge of performance testing and application profiling
• Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the magic and a desire to be a part of it
• Prior experience as a tech lead or engineering lead on a cross-functional or distributed team
• Track record of driving complex features or systems from inception to production in a leadership capacity
• Experience contributing to long-term technical roadmaps and engineering strategy
• Minimum: a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, engineering, or another technical field
• A master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline is highly desirable
• Experience guiding platform-wide architectural improvements or modernization initiatives
• Experience evaluating and selecting new technologies or tools for team-wide adoption

Experience with:

• The technology stack includes Java, Spring, and REST APIs.
• Data persistence utilizing a mix of relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL.
• Oracle and Redis, a data streaming stack that includes Kafka.
• AWS cloud and cloud-native stacks such as K8s, Parameter Store, and S3 Storage
• Object-oriented programming fundamentals and an in-depth understanding of dependency injection
• Docker containers orchestrated via EKS, AWS Lambda, and performance testing tools Gatling and JProfiler; an observability stack that includes Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana.
