You will work on a wide range of projects, lead junior engineers, and draw on support from the wider EPW team as needed. The role is highly collaborative, working closely with EPW engineers and multidisciplinary teams across Arup, from early concept advice to advanced modelling for some of the firm s most high-profile and complex projects.
We are looking for someone who delivers high-quality work on time and on budget, with a proven track record in numerical analysis of internal and external flows to inform design decisions (e.g., wind and thermal comfort, emissions dispersion, ventilation, HVAC, and building physics).
As a senior member of the EPW Practice, you will bring strong communication and negotiation skills and experience leading project teams. You will mentor and support others, helping the team grow and develop. We actively support learning and development, including access to relevant training.
You will have strong commercial, client-facing skills and represent Arup externally with minimal supervision. An established client network is an advantage. You should have experience in CFD modelling (OpenFOAM, ANSYS CFX or Fluent) and working with geographically distributed teams. Experience in datacentre CFD, microclimate design, dynamic thermal modelling and/or wind engineering is a plus.
Requirements
- Degree in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and Chartered (or close to) with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE).
- 7+ years in consultancy (incl. 3+ years senior) with sector experience in one or more of: datacentres, property, urban microclimates, labs.
- Modelling skills: CFD (OpenFOAM and/or ANSYS CFX/Fluent), plus dynamic thermal modelling (EnergyPlus/IES or similar); Python and Rhino/Revit exposure preferred.
- Strong project delivery and commercial skills: manage budgets, programme constraints, scope/fee/terms, and change control.
- Leadership and communication: lead and mentor engineers, write clear reports, and present technical solutions (incl. CFD) to clients and stakeholders; excellent English and a collaborative style.
- Business development: contribute to winning work and build strong internal and external networks.
