About the AWS Public Cloud (Platform Services) Engineering Team

American Express Platform Services team is looking for innovators to help us build world-class applications, cloud platforms, and infrastructure supported by integrated CI/CD, observability, and security capabilities.

• Bachelor s or master s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years managing large fleet of Kubernetes or EKS clusters, successfully leading teams responsible for highly reliable, resilient, and enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of cloud technologies (such as AWS, Google Cloud) and experience with cloud orchestration and automation tools like Terraform.
• Experience with DevOps practices and methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace and CloudWatch.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive resolution in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization.
• Certifications such as AWS Cloud Professional Architect, Kubernetes certified professional or other relevant certifications are a plus.

As the Senior Software Engineer - AWS Public Cloud Platform (Platform Services), you will define and lead Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and other AWS services related to compute, storage, serverless etc. This role requires cross-functional collaboration across engineering, cloud security, network engineering, cloud operations, FinOps and Cloud product to implement resilient, secure, and scalable enterprise platforms.

• Design and scale production-grade Kubernetes clusters preferably utilizing Amazon EKS.

• Architect and maintain global cloud infrastructure using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

• Manage cluster autoscaling and resource optimization using Karpenter.

• Implement GitOps workflows for continuous delivery using ArgoCD.

• Implement service mesh capabilities for east-west and north-south traffic using Istio.

• Deploy, configure, and maintain essential Kubernetes add-ons, operators, and custom controllers.

• Own the end-to-end Kubernetes upgrade lifecycle, executing zero-downtime cluster migrations and API deprecation updates.
• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery readiness for all production workloads.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex, deep-stack infrastructure and container networking issues.
• Optimize cloud spend through strategic sizing, lifecycle policies, and efficient scheduling.
• Provide technical mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers across engineering teams.
• Define and enforce infrastructure blueprints, security guardrails, and compliance standards.
• Collaborate with development teams to streamline containerization strategies and application onboarding.
• Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate technology, operational, resiliency, and security risks across cloud platform estate, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk management standards and risk appetite.
