Our customers trust us to move tens of millions of files and petabytes of data from on-premises file servers, network shares and other cloud storage providers into Egnyte.
The data has to arrive intact, with permissions preserved, inside tight cut-over windows, often from offices on several continents at once. We're looking for a senior engineer to own the technical direction of our migration platform. It has three parts:
- lightweight agents that run on customer machines and do the copying
- a cloud control plane that schedules and monitors those agents
- the cloud-to-cloud migration services that connect us to other storage platforms
You'll set the architecture, take on the hardest reliability and performance problems, and raise the engineering bar across the team.
What you'll do
- Own the architecture of the migration agents, control plane and cloud-to-cloud services. Set direction on scaling, fault tolerance and multi-region deployment, and write the design docs others build from.
- Make large migrations fast and predictable. Improve throughput across long-distance, high-latency links. Tune concurrency, chunking and retries. Make sure a migration with millions of files finishes on schedule.
- Guarantee data integrity. Design end-to-end checks (checksums, validation passes, reconciliation reports) so customers can prove every file and permission arrived correctly.
- Build resilience into every layer. Handle throttling, gateway timeouts, flaky customer networks and unstable third-party storage gracefully, with safe retries and no duplicates or data loss.
- Run it like a production service. Drive observability (structured logs, metrics, alerting) for agents spread across thousands of customer environments. Lead incident investigations and turn post-mortem findings into lasting fixes.
- Shape how we ship. Improve release safety for software installed on customer machines (staged rollouts, version compatibility, upgrades), and for the control plane on Kubernetes with GitOps.
- Partner across functions with Product, Professional Services and Support to turn real migration problems into roadmap priorities. Be the senior technical voice on escalations involving our largest customers.
- Multiply the team through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring and clear technical writing.
Your qualifications
- 7+ years building production software, including several years owning the design of distributed systems or data-intensive services.
- Strong in Go, Intermediate in Java (or another systems language such as Python, plus willingness to work mainly in Go).
- Deep understanding of file systems and storage: SMB/NFS shares, object storage (S3, Azure Blob/Files, GCS), metadata, permissions/ACLs, and why moving files at scale is hard.
- Hands-on experience making systems reliable over unreliable networks: retries, timeouts, backpressure, rate limiting, idempotency and long-running resumable jobs.
- Experience running services on Kubernetes in a major cloud (GCP, Azure or AWS), with solid habits around observability and incident response.
- A track record of leading technical work across teams: writing designs, driving decisions, and delivering complex projects to production.
- Clear communication with engineers, customers and leadership alike.
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale data migration, backup or sync products, or with tools like rclone.
- Experience shipping software that runs on customer machines (Windows services, installers, auto-update, edge appliances).
- Experience integrating with cloud content platforms APIs (SharePoint/OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive), including their throttling and pagination.
- Experience with hybrid-cloud or customer-owned-storage setups.
- Experience applying AI/LLM tooling to operations: log triage, automated diagnostics, support automation.
