Sr. Manager - SW Engineering

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering on the cloud services team, you will lead the design, development, and scaling of cloud-based services that power content search, content discovery, and personalization across millions of Roku devices. You will be responsible for building and expanding critical systems from the ground up, driving architectural decisions for large-scale distributed services and search platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise in backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and search technologies while leading a high-performing engineering team to deliver reliable, scalable solutions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams to define technical roadmaps and ensure alignment with business objectives. The successful candidate will provide technical direction and mentorship, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of engineers building and scaling cloud services for content search, content discovery, and personalization.
• Architect and develop highly scalable, distributed systems and search platforms from the ground up.
• Drive technical strategy and roadmap for cloud services infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, design, and other engineering teams to define technical requirements and priorities.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes to ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Provide technical leadership in areas such as distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, search technologies, and NoSQL databases.
• Conduct performance evaluations, set clear objectives, and provide mentorship to foster professional growth and development across the team.
• Work closely with senior leadership to align engineering efforts with overall business objectives and timelines.
• Champion a culture of collaboration, transparency, innovation, and accountability within the engineering organization.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous innovation.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Java and Python.
• 5+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, overseeing engineering teams and driving software development projects from conception to delivery.
• Proven track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams.
• Expertise in building cloud services and infrastructure on AWS (EC2, S3, etc. ), including deployment and monitoring.
• Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch or Solr.
• Experience building search platforms at scale.
• Deep experience with cloud computing and large-scale web services.
• Experience in design and development using NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
• Strong ability to make practical trade-offs and drive programs with autonomy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
