Sr. Analyst, Global Client Payments - Avalara

About the role :

At Avalara, we're building the future of global compliance, and our Global Client Payments team is at the heart of that mission. As a Sr. Analyst, you will play a critical role in reconciling and validating the payments we make on behalf of our clients to tax authorities worldwide. Your work will directly reduce compliance risk, enhance the client experience, and strengthen our control environment. You will own an established reconciliation process and the month-end close that runs alongside it. With payment volumes growing across every line of business, you will help convert manual reconciliation efforts into repeatable, AI-supported processes that make the work faster and more reliable.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

• Own daily reconciliations of bank activity against liability records, and clear exceptions within published turnaround targets.
• Own the month-end reconciliation close, delivering complete and accurate results on deadline.
• Create and resolve unpaid items, keeping aging within target.
• Review reconciliations completed by other analysts to catch errors before they impact clients.
• Make presented-item and stop-payment decisions using judgment within defined control requirements.
• Maintain and own standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation, ensuring it is current and audit-ready.
• Identify and implement process improvements and AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
• Partner cross-functionally on unresolved items, escalating issues with actionable recommendations.
• Lead within the team by driving shared work to delivery and keeping peers unblocked, raising peer capability through onboarding support, knowledge sharing, and coaching.
• Apply AI every day to business challengesimproving efficiency, contributing solutions, and driving results for your team, our company, and our customers.

What You'll Need To Be Successful

• Proven experience owning and executing complex daily and month-end reconciliation processes.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve exceptions and unpaid items efficiently.
• High attention to detail, capable of catching breaks in peer reconciliations and making sound stop-payment decisions.
• A continuous improvement mindset with a track record of identifying and implementing process improvements.
• Experience using AI and AI-related technologies, with a strong desire to embrace AI as an essential capability in your day-to-day work.
• Curiosity to grow with AI by staying up-to-date on new trends and best practices, and a willingness to share knowledge so others can benefit.
